Chances for an under-qualified applicant?

Claremont McKenna was kind of a last-minute addition to my college list - I love it, but honestly I didn't think I had a good enough shot to bother with it. Now that I'm officially applying, I'd like to get an idea of what to expect - a.k.a. is admission totally impossible, or vaguely plausible?

White female from NC, good public school
Will need financial aid for sure, ~20k family income
Class Rank: top third, but not quite top 25%
GPA: 3.3 UW, 3.9 W (by our school's ridiculous 6-point scale)
Junior year: 1 B in first semester of Chemistry, all the rest As
SAT: 2300 superscore, took twice (800 CR 700 M 800 W)
SAT II: 800 US History, 770 French, 790 Lit
AP: US History, French Language, Psychology (self-studied) - 5s

Awards: NMSF (224 PSAT), placed nationally on French exam

ECs: Amnesty International (co-founder/co-prez), school tutoring organization (co-founder/co-prez), newspaper (editor, not editor-in-chief) - all started 11th grade

I've never actually gotten a C, but I have one D (first semester 9th grade biology) and two Fs (first semester PE 9th grade, second semester art 10th grade) on my transcript. My junior and senior years will probably be nearing on a 4.0, but my freshman and sophomore years were obviously pretty bad.

Oh, and this year I'm taking three APs and one college French course - the College Board cut AP French Lit.

Any thoughts? Thank you for your time!

Honestly I think you have a shot. I would probably except a waitlist

Does CMC typically use their wait list?

Two years ago they didn’t, but last year they did.
