chances for an upper-avg stundent

<p>white male
not very well known high school (we're new...I think the best we did was one guy going to Uchicago last year, though we had maybe 15 going to UIUC. we have some competitive candidates this year though :))</p>

<p>projected major: linguistics/german, maybe a CS minor</p>

<p>3.6 UW 3.9W
top 10%</p>

<p>32 ACT (33 eng/27 math/36 reading/32 science/8 writing)
I also have another ACT on record (composite 31) with a math score of 31...something was wrong with me that other day</p>

<p>Will get good recs, probably from German teacher and English teacher</p>

<p>ECs:
German club 3 years, officer this year
Academic team 3 years, teams highest scorer (not saying much I'm afraid)
Jazz band/wind ensemble/marching band 4 years, always principal chair/section leader
CS explorers post, 4 years, officer last year, president this year. We do a lot of service.
right now I, along with a group of other fine arts kids are organizing a fine arts festival, IE advertising, raising funds, etc. It's been a wonderful experience, and I am writing my essays on it.
Summer Tech help at my school (IT stuff) 2 years
lots of outside experience in programming/linguistics</p>

<p>Your assessments seem to be very reasonable. I don’t know much about schools that excel in your desired major, however.</p>

Anybody want to chime in with some school suggestions? Penn and MIT are both very reputable linguistics schools, but I was looking for something a little more reasonable for me.</p>
