As you can see in my title, I'm applying to both andover and exeter.
I'm an eighth grader applying to ninth grade. Can you please "chance" me?
I'm just getting kind of nervous about it.

Grades (8th grade):
English: A+
Math (9th Grade honors): A
History: A+
Science: A+
Chinese: A+
P.E.: A
Drama: A-

SSAT Scores: got a 96th percentile overall

I haven't been able to participate in many activities for a long time because I'm always moving around. I explained about that during the interviews. I've lived in 6 countries and been to 10 different songs. So I speak Korean, English, and Chinese pretty fluently. Learned a bit of French when I was in 6-7 grade.

EC:
Art - 7 years (Won 1st place a contest. Probably the only contest I participated in.)
Student Council - 2 year (Grade/Class Representative)
Basketball- 3 years (School Travel Team)
Drama- 2 years (Major role at school)
Math Team- 2 years
Community Service- 2 years
Swimming- 9 years
Cross Country - 1 year

Interviews: I believe interviews at both school went well. They were both very nice and amiable.

Recommendations: I think all of my rec's will be good. I have good relationships with my teachers and I've received good comments from them on my report card.

Also, I have a quick question. If a non-US citizen student is living in the states and applying to boarding schools, do they fall into the category of International students?
I was just wondering. Again, thanks for looking over my stats and please give me your open opinion about it. Thanks!

When you mean by “you have as good of a chance as anyone else” is it a good thing or a bad thing? Also applying as an international would probably lower my chances, wouldn’t it?

its hard to “chance you” considering there are thousands of middle schools students with comparable grades and ssat scores. Although I think you have a good shot at both schools, because you have moved around A LOT, and have learned from your experiences (fluent in several languages), this makes you stand out from all the other eight graders with great numbers

what did you talk about in your interviews. for exeter, they like to hear why you are drawn to the schools, besides the name. did you talk about harkness and all that?

@forrestfire -
yeah my 6&7th grades are pretty good as my 8th grade one, but my 8th grade one’s the best out of them. for my interview at exeter i explained that i was drawn to exeter about the harkness system. i told them i learn a lot when we have discussions, similar to the harkness system, during english class and realized it was a good way to learn.
also, my other reason was that since i’m moving around a lot boarding schools like exeter would be a good place for me have a stable education because it’s harder to adjust to schools as you get older.

great, I have friends at exeter who that is certainly true for (their parents are all over the place and exeter is a grounding factor in their lives)

do you remember who your interviewer was?

and i would bet that you do get into exeter, maybe andover too

which would you rather go to?

are they the only boarding schools you applied to?

but i bet that you will because you are, like a million other eight graders, “qualified”

but what sets you apart from the crowd is your history of having moved around so much and being trilingual, i think that is the strongest part of your app

missrat-I believe that You have a good chance at Exeter. Can You chance me? BTW, it is difficult to chance because the Question of someones’ acceptance depends on the other applicants (OBVIOUSLY).

Your ECs are fairly good for the fact that you travel a lot. Do you have any preference to one of them? Did you win anything in any of them?

The three-language-travel thing is great; it’s basically your hook. Other than that, if your essays are good, you should have a good chance. Just try to make yourself stand out as much as possible.

thanks for your opinion.
for my ec’s art would be my strongest point and no i haven’t been able to participate in any contests except for one which i got first place. but i did draw my school’s drama poster; however, i believe that doesn’t really make a difference, but i did mention that during my interview. and about my essays, i’m working on them right now. don’t know how it will be. so far not bad. again thanks for your advice!
