Chances for another average student

Hey guys I think I'm pretty much a reach but I just wanted to come on here and see what you guys think. I'll be applying Early Response..

I'm hoping the upward trend would help but can someone give me a general idea as to what my chances are with a percentage of admission? Thanks a lot.

yep, it's a reach

Reach.

You're extracurriculars are OK.

You're GPA is lacking, as is your ACT score, which is lessened due to your OOS status.

Work a bit this summer; retake the ACT in the fall.

Good luck.

I got in with similar stats...I took a lot more APs/Honors though. My app was completed in early December and I was considered OOS. Definitely worth a shot. Good luck.

I thought the mean ACT of UMich was 27-31 composite, which means I would be in the top 35% or so no? Is it really that lacking?

reach, but worth applying

It's A LOT harder for out of state students...think along the lines of 30-34

the fact that you're from NJ will make it really hard on you. There are way too many of you here.

Why are there randomly sooooo many NJ kids at every top college, summer program, nerd activity, etc.? I mean, even compared to the states around NJ, most of the smart-people programs I've done have been like 1/3 NJ kids. Is there some inherent ultra-competitiveness in the state or something?

http://www.morganquitno.com/edrank.htm

NJ is also really densely populated and ranks in the top 10 in population...the other "smart states" have mid to low population rankings so it only makes sense that you see "smart NJ kids" everywhere.

I can see reasoning for how California is ranked so low, but still...
YAY! Alabama's 45 and not 48! AWESOME!
