Chances for Any UC or college in California

I would really like to know what my chances are of getting into a UC or just any college in California.
I am going to be a senior in high school this year.

Unweighted GPA: 3.2 (I know it's pretty bad)
Weighted: 3.6-3.7
UC GPA: around 3.5-3.7
I got a D in math analysis(precalc regular) second semester junior year. :( I am the first one going to college in the United States in my family and we didnt know that I shud have made it up.

EC:
Volunteering at kaiser permanente hospital
Volunteering at Stanford medical center
Volunteering at the India Community Center
Volunteering at my local library( might get a job there soon- interview in process)
Red Cross member
Interact member
Volunteer at the Stanford blood center
(I have around 200-300 hours so far and expect to have more by the end of senior year.)

Also something important is that I did 9th grade in India and then moves here for sophomore year. I was ranked 3rd in the class at my school in India and I got all A's. I also took chem, bio, physics, and environmental science in 9th grade. I got A's in all of them.

I have taken a lot of rigorous classes:
Ap bio - 4 on ap test
Ap us history - 3 on ap test
Ap English Lang- 5 on ap test
I'm taking 4 APs for senior year and precalculus honors. ( I have a private tutor)

SAT:
First time: 2040
Second time: around 1980
Superscore: 2110

I really want to go to med school so I'm looking at majoring in something bio related.

Please let me know if I can get into any colleges at all! I am freakiing out! I hope the D doesn't kill my dream of becoming a doctor!

You have a good SAT score but that GPA and D will hurt you in the admissions process. You should’ve retaken the class during summer at a community college or online. If it’s not too late, you should still try to do that! With your current stats:

UCM - low match/safety
UCR - low match
UCSC - match
UCI, UCD, UCSB - high match
UCSD - low reach
UCB, UCLA - reach

I think you should try for UCSD. It has a strong pre-med program. It’s easier to get in than UCB/UCLA, so it’s a high target for you.

Other than that, I agree with @newyorkcitylivin.

Chance me?

Thanks for the input newyorkcitylivin and ceyago! My parents took me to see a private counselor and she told me that all the UCs wud reject me as soon as they saw my D in math. Is that true? My parents are really mad at me now! But if I get an A in precalc honors first semester senior year, will they overlook the bad grade?

Ah yes, that actually is true. On the UC minimum admission requirements page, it states that you need to get a grade of C or better in all classes.

Getting an A the first semester of senior yr will definitely help, but idk if it’ll be too late by then. At my school we have 2 semesters (fall and spring) and they are both split up into 2 terms. The first term grades for fall are reported late October so those actually may appear on the transcript depending on when I submit the application (not too familiar with how my school does it though). So even if you get an A, it may not be in time to appear on your transcript and submit to colleges. You schould definitely talk to your school counselor about it!

@bluegill that shouldn’t stop you from applying. They say that but the UCs have recently been boasting about how they’ve adopted a more holistic view–therefore just keep everything else up. Show that that D was a fluke and kick ass :)

This is a complicated situation you will need to speak to your GC about ASAP. For grade replacement I think you have to take the exact same class, but Sr year may be too late, I’m not sure if they will consider it since they have no basis to calculate gpa with. Repeating the first semester of a passing grade with another passing grade doesn’t solve the D of the second semester. But most, maybe all, UC will not admit a student with a D in math class, even if you meet the math “c” requirements by previous Alg I, Geom, Alg II. The consultant is likely right. The consultant should have suggested some CSU’s for you. Also if your parents can pay for private school you will have more options. Don’t be upset if you go to CSU, my friend did and got to Cal Tech for grad school.

Sorry I can’t help more.

Here are some pages for you, but they mostly address meeting the math “c” requirements, which I think you do even without this class.
[University of California - Frequently asked questions](http://www.ucop.edu/agguide/a-g-requirements/c-mathematics/faq/index.html)
[University of California - Admission policy change for 2012](<a href=“University of California Counselors”>University of California Counselors)

The bad news is the D will most certainly hurt you. In the UC/CSU world a D is equivalent to an F. The good news is that you have met the minimal math requirement.

So, you are UC admissible. But unless you have an amazing essay and ECs, you most likely will not be selected by the higher end UCs.

Make sure to show off your ECs and write great essays, b/c that’s the only way you can get into any UC besides Riverside Merced and Santa Cruz with your GPA.

I have the same problem. except I am aiming for UCSC which is considered a low end school I guess? Helppp

thanks for all the comments everyone! I actually got accepted into Arizona State with a $11,500 scholarship for 4 years. I have applied to a bunch of other colleges as well but this was the only one i have heard back from so far.
I applied to UCI, UCSB, UCSD, UCSC, and UCD. Im hoping for the best! :D
