SAT IIs:

Now the schools I'm applying to:

1) UNC-Chapel Hill
2) NC State University
3) Duke University
4) UNC-Greensboro
5) UNC-Pembroke
6) UNC-Wilmington
7) UNC-Charlotte
8) UNC-Ashville
9) Elon University
10) Guilford College

What do you people think my chances are?

Can you include the percent chances as you estimate them.. for the schools you can estimate them for..

whats with these schools, you can do better

all UNCs are just safeties.. except for Chapel Hill

NCSU,Duke,and UNC are my top choices..

yeah outside of chapel hill and duke you are way overqualified for most of those UNC schools, some of which are HBCUs. If you really want to go to stay instate consider wake forest and NC State as well. What are you looking to major in? You seem like an engineering kind of kid with your math scores. Best of luck.

i want to do:

NCSU - Engineering
UNC - Applied Math/General Math
Duke - General Math/Physics

but i think my low unweighted GPA and bad rank (even though it is at competitive school, most colleges dont care that much) will kill me at all three schools..

Most of my bad grades were during sophomore yr too.. primarily because of just joining AP..

heres my gpa for yrs:

9th = 3.7
10th = 2.0
11th = 3.75
12th = 3.75

NCSU - you're in 95%
UNC - In (b/c u live in NC) 60%
Duke - Maybe because of parent and decent scores 45%

but the NCSU site says that they're mid-50% are:

Unweighted GPA: 3.30-3.73
Weighted GPA: 3.82-4.32
SAT Combined (Old): 1110-1260
ACT: 22-28
Rank: Top 23%-Top 7%

im fine in Weighted, SAT but im lagging behind in Rank,and unweighted..

does that mean im still probably in??

you're fine for SAT, you have a 1350, which is above the 25-75.

Does an 50% weighted and top 25% SAT make up for bottom 25% rank and bottom 25% unweighted?
along w/ my "hooks" and ECs (i dont kno whether they will be above average)

NCSU has optional essays+recommendations.. so they wont really help me that much

NCSU, you're in... you live in state, it is a HUGE school. If you want me to be negative about it, I'd say they would take you just to boost their SAT scores. Plus, you're in the 50% weighted. Most public state schools will accept you based SOLELY on one thing or another. For Chapel Hill and Duke, two more competitive schools, I think there might be a little bit more of an issue.

Don't think "homecoming prince" is going to help you out all that much...

UNC only posts their weighted average which is 4.3 (both instate and out-of-state)
so does that mean they dont care that much about unweighted??

but rank might hurt me.. 70% of UNC's applicants are Top 10% (it would probably be less for me since my school is more competitive than most NC schools and because out-of-state applicants (18%) are all top 10%)

UNC is hard to get into, instate or out of state, but 82% of its undergrads are required to come from NC. That will help. Your essay score will definately hurt I think. Is it 4, or two 4s making an 8...?

two 4s making 8

ok, so nevermind, but that still might hurt...

two 4s making 8 is much better, I was wondering how you got a 700 with a 4.
