Essay

  • About the aftermath of when my best friend that passed away during my freshman year and how I struggled both in and out of school and pulled through to be successful as a sophomore

I know my GPA is lower than average, but I need help discussing my chances with my ECs, SAT, and essay factored in, but I feel like for BC and BU the SAT Subject Tests would do me a great help.

Georgetown University is my highest reach (Low GPA), but I have hopes because my brother attended the school and I’m hoping my essay, SAT, interview, and rec letters can make a difference (Georgetown alumni APUSH teacher writing rec).Is it possible? Or are my chances completely diminished because of my GPA.

Safeties/Matches: University of Florida, University of South Florida, Florida State University

bump please

Here is my 2 cents for what it’s worth:

GU: Is tough and a reach for almost everyone. I think your unweighted GPA may be a factor there. They reject plenty of people who are in the top 5% of their classes.

IMHO your matches (but not guarantees) are BU, BC, and UF. Your stats are good overall: 8 APs, good weighted GPA, great test scores. Make sure you present a strong application and essays. And, yes, if you have good SAT subject scores, go ahead and submit them to BU and BC. (Not sure if UF considers SAT subject tests; I can’t remember.)

Safeties: USF and FSU. You could get merit $. Not sure if you are interested in UCF at all, but you could get some $ there too.

Best of luck!

Also, I believe BU still considers demonstrated interest, so visit if you can. I believe BC says they don’t.

Have you looked at Northeastern and GW? If you like the schools you mentioned, you may like these as well.

@AlwaysLearn Thank you so much man, and yeah I’ve looked at the two but am still undecided on whether to pursue them or not. UCF still seems good and I’m leaning towards sending in an application this week because I’ve heard they have a great business school (in Floridian standards of course). Do you think my connections to Georgetown could help?

I don’t think the connections could hurt; they could only help. I’m not sure if GU considers siblings when it comes to legacies. I would just consider GU a reach and try to submit the strongest app/have the best interview possible.
