Chances for Berkeley, Stanford and CMU?

Listed are my top three choices for computer engineering, U of I is my safety, I'm also looking into UPenn, Cornell, and Georgia Tech but they aren't my priority.

I live in Illinois, so OOS for all
Race: Asian
Gender: Male

UW GPA: 3.76/4.0
Weighted: 4.38
UC GPA, not entirely sure how to calculate this

AP Scores:
World History: 5 (didn't take the class for this)
Government: 4
Stats: 4
Calculus BC: 5
Chemistry: 5
Biology: 4
Language and Comp: 5
US History: 5

Senior Year Classes:
AP Lit
Calculus III
AP Physx C
Computer Repair
AP Macro/Micro
AP Spanish
PE (required in IL)

Also the vast majority of my classes have been honors
I will be taking all of the AP tests besides Lit which should bring my total to 11

Class rank/Size: my school doesn't assign ranks / ~900 students

SAT/ACT: 2120/34

SAT II:
Chemistry: 770
Biology: 730
Math II: 800

EC:
Scholastic Bowl - 4 yr (Captain for 3)
Marching Band - 4 yr (Section Leader for 1)
Science Bowl - 2 yr (Co-Captain for 1)
Chess Team - 2 yr
Math Team - 1 yr

Volunteer/Internship:
Edwards Hospital volunteer (largest hospital in area): helped manage the database of cytology and related sciences for the pathologists
Internship at Northwestern University: Worked with a professor on computer models of active endothelial cells and wrote a report on my research to possibly be published (it has to go through the board first)

Recommendations:
Getting from my junior year Calculus BC teacher and my senior year Physx C teacher

Awards:
ummm, awards?

Additional Info:
-I didn't take the SAT as seriously as I took the ACT which would explain my lower SAT scores
-The first semester of my sophomore year, and the first semester of my junior year I had across the board bad grades (7 B's total) but then in the second semester of each year stepped it up (2 B's total)
-I have a family member who is a Stanford alum
-My high school class is extremely competitive, at least 10 of them have gotten a 36 on the ACT and multiple have almost perfect 4.0's

Stanford: Reach
Berkeley: Match (can you pay full-freight to Berkeley?)
CMU: Reach
UPenn: Reach
Cornell: Reach
GA Tech: Low match

UC gpa is only classes taken 10th and 11th grades. 4 points for each A, 3 for each B, 2 for each C, etc. pluses and minuses don’t count. Add 1 extra point for each AP and honors class. Most UCs cap the extra points at 8.

GPA/standardized scores look a bit low for an AA male doing CompE. ECs don’t seem super impressive although research looks nice. I’d say you’re not getting Stanford/CMU/UPenn/Cornell, maybe Berkeley, probably GAT. CompE kids at top schools usually have ECs in that field already, of which you have like one.

Being OOS is a plus for admission to Berkeley.

Stanford: reach
Berkeley: high match
CMU: low reach
UPenn: reach
Cornell: reach
GA Tech: low match

Stanford-high reach
Berkeley-match
CMU-match
UPenn-mid reach
Cornell-low reach
GA Tech-almost a safety

Chance back?
http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1542549-chance-me-uva-ucla-usc-barnard-wellesley.html

@Catria, I can pay for one year, because afterwards I think my parents are moving into CA from which I can claim in-state tuition

and also if my GPA and scores are lower for CompE, is there another form (possibly mechanical or electrical) which would be better for my chances during applications?

additionally, can someone give me an example of “impressive” ECs? I feel like I’ve put all possible time into doing extra curricular activities (I get home at about 6 everyday when school ends at 3).

thanks for all the replies everyone!

EDIT: nvm about the EC’s, just saw the sticky :P

It’s hard to say if you’d get in COE because it looks like you got about half As/half Bs in soph and jr year, but we don’t know how many of those were AP. BTW, only college prep classes count in the UC gpa (so no PE). It’s easier to get into L&S CS.

My sophomore year schedule:
Honors PreCalculus
AP Statistics
International Relations/Honors Written (both 1 sem courses)
Spanish 3
PE
Honors Physics
Honors Mlc Biology

Junior:
AP Calculus BC
AP Chemistry
AP Biology
AP US History
AP Language & Comp
Spanish 4
PE

I can apply to both though right? And also is true computer engineering - meaning hardware oriented, really offered at Berkeley does the EECS curriculum only focus on computer science and electrical engineering

I don’t have time right now to calculate your UC gpa, so ill do that later (unless someone else gets to it first). But, no, you can’t apply to both (shame, huh?). Apply to one and if you don’t get accepted, you don’t get to go to Berkeley at all (although you can reapply as a transfer). Oh, and in case you were wondering … If you get denied and decide to appeal, you can’t change colleges at that time.

Yes, computer engineering (hardware) at Cal is within EECS and you can choose to focus on what interests you. There are 5 different options and within each option you have technical electives of your choice.
