Anything else I'm missing, I'll add on later...uhmm soo yeah. Chance me for Stanford or Berkeley? Anything I could improve on?? (besides my SAT score..ehh).. k thank you!

I think you're currently a slight reach for Berkeley and a far reach for Stanford. Look onto taking more AP classes senior year if your school offers it. For example, take AP psych and AP civics if it is offered, and I believe you are somewhat weak in the science department of your transcript. If there are any AP level sci classes such as AP bio and chem, take those as Colleges love to see high-level sci classes.

Provided you get straight A's in Senior year, the gpa of that year is around a 4.5, i believe. Again, if your school offers any additional AP classes, take those instead of your non-AP classes, as you are a little under the average GPA of admitted students to Berkeley. Stanford is a different story, as applicants are very very competitive and thus the school is very very selective. But who knows. I know a few people that got into Berkeley with mediocre scores and grades. With your high class rank, I assume your schools is more of a developing, less competitive school?

Perhaps you might look to other universities, such as UCSD, UCI or UCSB? I think those would be more of a match.

thanks for the advice, knguyen..
I didnt know I was slightly below the GPA of Cal Applicants? I thought for berkeley, 4.0 was good? anyway, I'll look into taking more AP classes.. yes, my school isnt too prestigious, i'm not sure how much berkeley takes that into account.. the reason i didnt choose the ap classes was mostly because I heard the teachers offering it are overburdening...or not efficent at all.

would taking college community classes help?
i've taken human biology, and might take physics.

anyone else want to advise??

I think you really need to break 2000 on the SATs to have a good chance at berkeley. 1850-1860 just doesnt cut it. If you really want stanford, your in school grades seem to be close to good enough, but your SAT will need to be around 2200 to contend for that. you are probably a lock at most of the UC schools, though.

How about you chance me now?

http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/showthread.php?t=362572

What state are you a resident of? That's a pretty big factor for UC Berkeley.

im in CA.

man......sat scores ruin everything..lol.. k thanks.. is 2000 generally the minimum for berkeley?

If your schools offers APs and you did not take them, Berkeley is a reach. You'll find almost everyone they accept took the hardest courseload their school offered. A 4.0 in regular classes is not competitive at Cal. Taking 3 "gut" electives senior year isn't going to help.

UCs make SAT scores, your GPA, and your class rank the top 3 factors (because there's WAY too many people appyling). it's not as holistic as with the private schools.

the higher those three, the better your chances.
definitely retake the SAT/take the ACT...

stanford's a significant reach, berkeley may be better if you get your stats up by the fall.

dang.. thanks guys.. you're helping..
Soo, for senior year's classes.. I'm planning on dropping biotech and psychology and taking AP Bio and Honors physics instead?
Would that help my chances?

and what did you guys find easier, ACT or SAT? (if you took both.)

Of course that will help your chances, just make sure you will get at least a B in those classes. If AP Phsyics is offered, perhaps you should consider taking that instead. I wouldn't, but I'm scared of physics :). Anyway, be certain that you can handle those classes. You have to keep in mind that you have to take the SAT Subjects and retake the reasoning, and that does seem a bit strenuous. Best wishes.
