Chances for Brown?

I am a junior, will probably apply RD to Brown next year.

Stats:

SAT: 2300, 800 CR, 700 M, 800 W (may possibly retake?)
SATII (predicted)-750 US History, 720 Math IIC

GPA UW: 94.5

Freshman:96 UW
Sophomore:90 W (had serious medical issues, GC will include in rec)
Junior: 97 UW

AP’s-7 (even though you have to get permission from superintendent for more than 2)-Gov, Lang, Lit, Stats, Bio, Psych, Human Geo

EC’s

Research-2 different neuroscience/behavior internships. Published in medical journal.

Academic:
-Debate Team Varsity, Captain
-Japanese Club
-Japanese Speech Contest
-NHS
-Science NHS (very prestigious at my school-top 5% science gpa)

Athletic:
-Varsity Tennis
-Varsity Track (1 yr)
-Black Belt Karate/Instructor

Other: Hebrew Tutor, Girls State, Counselor for behavioral problem children

Major interest is in behavior. Also, in language-am proficient in english, japanese, hebrew, spanish (I’m a white female)

Do I even have a chance?

You definitely have a shot at Brown.

Are you taking additional SAT Subject Tests? Tests in Chemistry or Biology may help your chances, especially if you’re applying to PLME or as a Neuroscience concentration. I wouldn’t retake the SAT if I were you; 2300 is a good enough score. I can’t say much about your research because you didn’t include much information. I just want to say that my friend participated in HSHSP, obtained 5 publications, and won Intel/Siemens Semi-Finalist and was rejected from Brown.

Work on your essays, make sure your recs are good, and good luck to you when it’s time for admission! (Brown is kind of a crapshoot… <_<)

Edit: Since you’re interested in behavior, I hope you are applying to Penn and Columbia. Penn has a special major (Biological Basis of Behavior) and Columbia has a decent Neuroscience and Behavior major (and if you get into Rabi’s, you’ll have tons of fun). Are you interested more in the Psych portion or the Neurobio portion?

Thank you. I am not taking additional subject tests, I took Chem last year and would need to refresh my memory a lot, and am taking AP Bio next year.

I am applying to Penn for that exact major, I think! I have legacy there, so that might help, and I’m not sure about Columbia-I’ve been leaning more towards Barnard?

But I know these all are very high reaches for me.

My research publication was one I coauthored, I conceptualized the review, etc. I also have another internship that is more psych based, and also did some statistics work there. I’m more interested in the behavior aspect.

Everything is looking good, but i cant put enough emphasis on the importance of good essays. As a recently admitted student, I can say that Brown really wants to see if you are a good fit for them and are looking for students that will thrive with the Open Curriculum.

Yes, I have been thinking about possible essay topics for the past few months and been writing them down.

There is no need – absolutely NO NEED – to take additional SAT II subject tests unless you are applying to a school that requires 3. Brown looks at your top 2 scores, and your two scores are good. Having additional subject tests will NOT increase your chances.

i know, wasn’t planning on it.
