Chances for Bryn Mawr and Mount Holyoke?

I’ve already applied, and I’m curious about my chances for Bryn Mawr and MHC, my two top choices. There is no doubt in my mind that Bryn Mawr is a reach school for me, but I’m wondering if someone could help me estimate. I’ve been told by various sources (counselor, Cappex, CProwler) that MHC would be a safe school.

3.5/4.0 GPA Unweighted, 3.6-3.7 Weighted.
My GPA is definitely weak, but I’m hoping admissions will consider the extreme upward trend in grades? Tbh I was really lazy in my first two years, and only in Junior year did I finally wake up and become self-motivated. When I did, I ended up doing really well. My HS is one of the best schools in the US, very competitive blah blah blah.

Freshman Year/Sophomore Year: 2 Cs in Honors Bio and Honors Geometry. D- in Honors Chemistry. Other grades were various As and Bs.

Junior Year:
AP Bio: A, A
AP Psych: A, A
Physics: B, A
CPUSH: A, A
Precalc: A, A
English: A, A

Senior Year: So far 5 As and 1 B. BUT I have easier classes, my hardest classes are AP Stats and CP Calc. Long story short, I dropped my hardest class (AP Chem, yes, I wanted a second chance) for Digital Photography because I didn’t want to invest all my time for a C.

My essays are pretty good according to peers, teachers, and my counselor. I put a lot of thought into them, make sure they’re honest and true to myself, and I heavily researched the colleges. I chose the failure topic, writing about how failing H. Chem actually led to an era of personal growth. Recc letters should also be good, one of the teachers actually came up to me and said they’d be happy to write one for me.

Forgot to mention something very important. I applied as a Biology/Pre-med major for both. I really like biology, I find it very interesting ^____^

I don’t personally know about BMC, but I think you are a great candidate for MHC. My D is a bio major there and LOVES it. Her GPA at the time she applied was just under 3.5 (definitely low for the applicant pool) and her SATs was 2100, SAT2s 720, 790. Although you are right that your GPA is a little low, your other accomplishments are great and MHC is very holistic. I’d assume BMC is much the same. I think you sound like a pretty solid candidate. Hi! I am an international student and have also applied to BMC and MHC. Here is my profile:

O Levels - 6 A*s and 2 As
AS Level - 3 As and 1 C
SAT I - 1940
Rank - school doesn’t rank but counselor said I am easily in the top 10%
GPA - we don’t have GPAs either (British curriculum)
Honors - Valedictorian (class of 2013)
Essay - Strong
Supplement - Average to strong (talked about an incident with my schizophrenic sister)
Recommendations - Stellar! Teachers and counselor know me really well

My ECs are mostly writing related. I was Head Girl in grade 11 and currently head the school Literary Society.

HOWEVER, I think I have a weak course load (only 3 A2 subjects) and I’d need almost a full ride.

Please chance me! I am desperate to know if I have a real shot at either of these amazing colleges or not.

@cityrazzledazzle‌ umm… are you new here? I think you’re supposed to make your own thread if you want people to evaluate your chances. On the main page, click create your own thread for the “What Are My Chances” forum.

I’ll evaluate you anyways though. I’d say you have a chance of ~50-70% for MHC and ~30-50% chance for BMC. I am not really familiar with the British school system, so take this as an open estimate. At a glance only the C, mediocre SAT, and course load are your weak points. Everything else is great and will strongly benefit you when admissions is reviewing your app.

I’ve heard MHC is generous with scholarships! Good luck with your decisions. :slight_smile:

I have a very genuine explanation of the only C (caught Diarrhea just the night before the exam). I hope it all works out! :slight_smile:
