anyone want to tell theyre input? is there any chance at ALL if you have no hospital volunteering. like 0 percent chance?

There’s no way anyone can tell without more information. That should be obvious.

i’m just asking if theres a point in applying. like if you dont have any hopsital volunteering do they just throw it out? is it kind of like a checkpoint?

No, it’s not “kind of like a checkpoint”.

i mean, no, it’s not like a checkpoint, but it is certainly helpful… without a little more information, there’s not really anything anyone can tell you about your chances

Service hours-not necessarily “hospital voluteering” are critical to any med school app. Also, why the 6-year program? What’s the rush? Gain some life experience and apply to a “normal” med school-you’ll be a better doctor when the time comes.

well, do you have any other medically related EC? Its obviously a huge misconception that hospital volunteering is key to gaining some insight into the field (half the time you dont even do anything medically related-like the info desk). You do, however, need to prove that you have enough maturity to make a decision about medicine. If you can tell us more stats, then im sure people could give you a more fair assessment.

Dont know if you guys need more info but kinda lazy… about listing them out… Anyways i guess my main concern is my SAT I score and lack of volunteering experience… not so much worried for extracurricular stuff just volunteering since i dont record my hours…

dont know what my weighted junior year was a 4.8 i think

Try to do some physician shadowing if at all possible. I think shadowing is more important than volunteering in a hospital. Volunteers are often placed in settings where there is no clinical exposure (ie. gift shop).

Many combined medical programs value some clinical exposure, because they want to know if you have been exposed to enough to know for certain that medicine is the career for you.

^ I disagree. If you take the time to research some willing hospitals, you can land yourself some reasonable clinical volunteer experience.

There is a chance but given that you are asian (sorry, it’s true there is bias) it may weigh very strongly against you, especially at top programs. They will simply ask why they should believe you are so interested in medicine. You must be able to justify that in actions, words, and essays.

Volunteering >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Shadowing>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>nothing
