I am currently a junior in high school and viewing my options for college. I have determined that I would like to go into business and I am wondering which schools are reaches, targets, or safety's.

I currently have a 3.92 unweighted GPA.
I am ranked top 11.5% of my class.
I have taken almost all honors classes and I am taking AP classes my junior and senior year.
I have gotten a 26 on my ACT and will be taking it again.
I have yet to take the SAT but will soon.
I am in National Honors Society, a Treasurer in Key Club and member for 4 years, varsity tennis player for 6 years and lettered + captain, Spanish club, editor for school paper, cofounder of club and co-president of it, volunteer at local charities and nature center, etc.

University of Notre Dame – Reach

University of Cornell – Very difficult Reach (need to enhance ACT/SAT big time)

You can make everything but Cornell, Notre Dame, NYU, and BC a target if you dramatically increase SAT/ACT scores. To check out ranges for each school go to [College Profiles](College Profiles)
and type in your school in the upper right hand search box, all the info is there. Best of luck to you!

Cornell and Notre Dame are reaches, unless you can get those scores up and beef up your EC’s. I think you’re fine for the rest of those schools though!

UNC is probably my top choice so far so this is motivating but since they accept 80% in-state do you still think my chances are good to get in if I apply early action? Is there anything in particular they look for in apps? I will try to raise test scores as I am taking the ACT again in two weeks. Thanks for the feedback! Need more opinions!

Your GPA and extracurriculars are strong, but your ACT is considerably weaker than the rest of your transcript. Any schools marked with a tilde (~) could be brought one step down in difficulty if you score well on your SATs or better on your ACTs (i.e. Target/Reach can become Target, Reach can become Target/Reach, etc). Some of them seem like pretty definite reaches. But overall, you have a strong transcript. Make yourself sparkle in your essays.

I think you are on the right track, if you get in the 30s on the ACT or a good SAT score >2200 you could definitely get into most of those schools
best of luck!

Only thing to worry about now is your SAT score. Try to get at least a 2100 on that for a good shot at the Ivies. Also work on raising your ACT score. But overall, competitive applicant if you keep up the hard work.
