Chances for Cal/Davis?

Hi everyone!

I’m currently applying to transfer to Cal or Davis as a nutritional sciences major. I’ve completely 60 credits and the IGETC requirements at a local community college.

I have a 4.0 overall GPA, over 500 hours of volunteer work & community service, over 4 years of work experience, academic awards/scholarships in sciences from my CC, and I’m feeling extremely confident in my two personal statements!
The only thing that has me a bit worried is that I haven’t completed all the major requirements. I have two more chemistry classes to take, but I’d rather transfer now and complete them at either Cal or Davis! I don’t mind taking the extra semesters towards graduation, but I’m wondering if the colleges will be open to that.

Does anyone know what my chances are at either of these schools based on my circumstances? Do either of these schools accept students who haven’t completed all major requirements?

Thank you!

You’re competing against those that have completed all the prereqs so your chances are not as high as theirs.

UC Davis says it is highly recommended that all chemistry be taken (4 courses) and it specifically singles out chemistry. (Note, it is not recommended - it is HIGHLY recommended.)

Berkeley says this about the major:

Based on the above you will not get accepted to Berkeley (The MUST COMPLETE was emphasized very strongly on assist.) I don’t know how Davis will process it.

Thank you so much!

You may want to take an extra year/semester to complete all of the requirements. If you have everything completed, then you’d have a good shot.

You could only take the two classes you need and do an internship or something.

The College of Natural Resources at Cal weighs the personal statement heavily, by the way. Make sure your PS is up to par (emphasizes passion in the major, etc.)
