@Gumbymom Can you chance me please? My stats are on my profile and I’m a transfer student (calif. cc) for Mechanical engineering(most likely). On that subject, should I apply for a less impacted engineering program, then just transfer to the one I want when/if I get accepted?
@justinmega1, transferring at Poly isn’t that simple. It can be done, but there are several hurdles, including how competitive you’d have been in the cohort that was admitted to the major you wasn’t to transfer into. It’s designed that way to specifically make back dooring into a major, like you’re contemplating, difficult.
I was just offered acceptance to Cal Poly SLO Computer Science!!!
MCA: 4492
Race: Hispanic/White
CSU GPA: 3.87
Class Rank: 1/32 “Valedictorian”(Not that impressive with such a small class, but still)
ACT: 34 superscore (35E 35M 31R 33S) waiting on my October score. May be able to bring score up to 34, but probably not.
Income: 200k+
State: Texas
Major: Computer Science
Leadership: Youth Leadership at Church; Sophomore (like 75 hours)
PAL(Peer Assistance Leadership) Program (assist mentally challenged students fit in socially and academically in school); Freshman-Senior (250 hours)
ECs: Golf; Junior-Senior (Practice and compete 5-10 hours per week)
Boy Scouts; K-9 (moved and couldn’t manage the drive but got star scout)
A&M STEM Camp for two weeks; Sophomore Summer
Football; Freshman
Youth Nights every Sunday at church; Freshman-Senior
Volunteer: Local Scholarship Program; 12 hours
Two summer vacation bible schools; 50 hours
Mission to Moore, OK after the tornado; 40 hours
Work: 25 hours a week every week for the past two years since I turned 16
That is all great but do you not believe everyone telling you MCA is the only thing that matters?
@VickiSoCal I don’t understand what your asking?
I’m just excited I was accepted! Past threads indicated that a sub-4500 would be near impossible for CS, so I don’t know what pushed me over the edge, especially since I didn’t even have to submit any essays.
@Jpgranier if you got in with your MCA your MCA is above the OOS cutoff for your major.
They just don’t care about all the other things other schools may care about.
Congratulations and glad I was wrong about your chances. Great job and Good Luck.
Hopefully you posted your MCA score on this thread: http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/cal-poly-san-luis-obispo/1958827-fall-2017-final-status.html
This will help future applicants gauge their chances for in-state and OOS.
@VickiSoCal they do care about other things or else they would not be included in the MCA calculation. I only included everything else for ease of copying and pasting.
@Gumbymom Thank you and will do!
