Chances for cal poly slo?

I'm going to be applying to mechanical engineering withing a few months, to cal poly slo, and some of the mid-less UC's, like SD and Irvine., but i would really prefer going to cal poly slo..

mmm my parents combined income is around 200k
not real worried about activites, because i have some more that i havent listed, but real worried about my GPA at this point. Cal poly slo mechanical engineering is really tough to get into, and im worried i wont even make the first cut with my current gpa. Chances, plz, to give me some insight and maybe even some hope for me. Thnx!

High scores can make up for a lower GPA. Your projected ACT score could tip you in if you achieve the 32 plus.

Thanks. That’s what I was hoping to improve on, because my GPA’s not that great.

ilovecars - based on my son’s experience for the '09/'10 admissions cycle, I would say your chances are uncertain. He had a 3.63 UW GPA with all Honors and 7 AP’s (including AP Chem, AP Physics C, Calc AB and BC, World Hist, Eng Lang and Eng Lit). His ACT was 32. To our great shock he didn’t get into either SLO or UCD, which we had thought of as the ‘safety’ schools. It is possible that it will be easier for the 2010/2011 admissions cycle, but you want to be sure to have other options. In my opinion, we made a mistake in not applying to several more UC’s… That said, after getting those two rejections, we were just as surprised when he was accepted to UCSD, also for Mech Eng. Give yourself lots of options, as this whole process is so unpredictable. Good luck.

^^ That’s ridiculous that he didn’t get in to SLO or Davis – even for engineering.

bumpppppppp
