I’m current in TX and planning to move back to CA after my high school
What are my chances for CSU San Bernandino or San Marcos?
Currently junior
UW GPA - 2.97
Weighted GPA - 3.82
What are my options?
Thx.

CSU’s calculate a capped weighted GPA based on the a-g course requirements using only 10-11th grades. Only AP/IB courses will be given the extra weighting up to 8 semesters of these courses taken during this time.

Cal states admit by eligibility index and major. Impacted programs will require higher stats to be accepted.
EI= (CSU GPA x 800) + (SAT Math + EBRW). You are then ranked by major and EI.
Averages for CSUSM 2018: CSU GPA: 3.39 SAT:1070 ACT: 22

Since you an OOS applicant, expect to pay full fees around $35-40K/year to attend. Unless your parents move to CA and establish residency, you will be OOS fees all 4 years.
Depending upon major and EI, you do have a chance at these schools. For OOS applicants, you need a minimum 3570 (SAT) or 842 (ACT). Not sure why these CSU’s in particular?
Thanks for the quick response.
Did my 9th in CA and 10-12 in TX
I have 1050 on SAT.
1 AP CS
2 pre-AP Math and CS
My parents intend to move back to LA next summer.
I was looking around the SoCal area.
Interested in Business-Information Systems.
How does that make my chances?
You will still be considered an OOS applicant until your parents and you live in CA for 365 days prior to attending a CSU so you will be applying as an OOS applicant and will need a minimum CSU capped weighted GPA of 3.15 or higher to meet the CSU eligibility index minimum of 3570. If you are able to increase your SAT score, then the minimum CSU GPA will be lower.
Both campuses are possible but you will be compared to all BIS applicants. You will be ranked by your EI and they admit from the top down.
Here is the CSU impaction matrix and you should target non-impacted campuses for your major.

Thanks a bunch.
I may be considered OOS for the 1st year only since the move would likely be over the summer.
Since my weighted GPA is above 3.15 I don’t need to meet the eligibility index of 3570. I’m at 3418. Right??
Just to make sure my understanding of the matrix is correct:
Looking at the matrix, campuses like SB, East Bay, Channel Island, has O - which means not impacted and has better chance than the ones Impacted. Is my understanding correct ?
Thanks
I found this article helpful

Just calculated my capped weighted GPA and it is 3.0 and CSU eligibility at 3450 based on SAT 1050
Does that make me ineligible to apply or be considered?
Any suggestions or options for CA colleges?
Yes, you need at least 3570 as an out of state frosh applicant.
Yes, if you do not meet the minimum Eligibility index as an OOS applicant, then your application to the Cal States will not be considered. If you can take 1-2 classes during the summer that are a-g courses and get A’s, it could bump up your CSU GPA since summer courses prior to Senior year will be considered in the CSU GPA calculation.
For impaction, the O does indicate non-impacted majors so you will have a better chance at an acceptance. Definitely work on retaking the SAT for a higher score and/or adding a few summer classes.
Thank you all for the responses
Based on my revised 11th grade, my GPA calculation (3 As, 7 Bs, 4 Cs in 10th and 11th) is now 3.21 which makes the eligibility score for SAT at 1010
Looks like I have a chance to apply for Cal State - San Bernardino or San Marcos - CSU within the LA area.
Are there any other CSUs that may have a better chance to get in?
Your EI is 1010 for SAT??? Not possible. San Marcos is not in the LA Area but closer to San Diego.
looks like your EI is 3578 - just a hare over the min for OOS applicants. You should certainly take the SAT again, another hundred points could open more CSU doors. Impaction changes a bit year to year but this list will help ID several places you might apply.

OOS tuition is pretty absurd for CSUs. IT might be cheaper to go to TX public, even if you have to cover housing.
If you can move this summer and graduate from a CA HS, it would save you a mint and open a lot more CSU doors.
