Hey guys, rising junior here planning in majoring in computer science. Can you all tell me my chances for schools like caltech, Berkeley, Stanford, MIT, Carnegie Mellon?

SAT: 1500 (790 math, 710 English) - retaking in August will get 1530 at least

Veritas education STEM tutoring ( over 200 hours) - Website designer (website approved by lieutenant governor who is involved in the organization), Management team (helped manage over 60 tutors and plan tutoring activities)

Programmed an app for United Chinese Americans volunteer organization

Work experience:
Worked in a geology professor’s lab to conduct graduate level research on seismic waves and detection of oil/natural gas reservoirs using cutting edge technology. Research was used a publication that will be submitted to the Society of Exploration Geophysicists.

Well you have all the top CS schools on the list so…need to improve SAT significantly to really up your chances or choose other schools.

Dude…you sound like the embodiment of a stereotype in terms of your profile. You need to have something different. Think about it like this. For MIT, half of their admitted class has done research, 35% of them are asian, and the average math score accepted is a 790. The thing is, yes, you do fit the average profile…but that’s it. You are what we call an average excellent student. Solid EC’s, lots of volunteer work Great scores, great grades, but…but…there’s nothing that stands out from your profile. You sound like every other applicant they get.

Here’s whats going to make or break you. The essays and the interviews. You need to prove how unique you are in that. Good luck.
