Overused I know, but still, doesn’t hurt. I just want an honest opinion for Caltech. Thanks guys! :smiley:

790 US History (meh lol)

4 AP Latin (Latin program shutdown due to lack of funding, self-study)

Also took 5 math college courses, all Pass (only pass/fail available for high school students)

Extracurriculars (actually did a lot more, just writing the stuff I’ll put on my app):

  • 3yrs; 11/12th grade Academic Decathlon (we had two AcaDeca teams-- one 9/10 and the other 11/12. I broke state record for highest essay score in 9/10th AcaDeca in 9th grade, so my teacher bumped me up to 11/12 team in 10th grade)
    12th grade: Captain
  • 4yrs; NASA/Boeing International Space Settlement Design Competition
  • 3yrs; co-founded school’s first official competing debate team, Debate Team
    10th, 11th, 12th: Co-Captain
  • 4yrs; FIRST/FTC Robotics Team
  • 9yrs; Viola (should I include this?)

Awards (only listing what I’ll put):

  • Siemens Semi-Finalist, group
  • National Science Fair finalist
  • Gold Presidential Volunteer Service Award (got it along with my Eagle)
  • 2nd for Overall Score in AcaDeca (Division I) (in California)
  • 4th for FIRST competition (in California)
  • 1st for Lincoln-Douglas debate (Nationals)
  • Superior Distinction for Debate (awarded by National Speech and Debate Association)
  • 1st for NASA/Boeing ISSDC (International)
  • USAMO qualified

Others:

  • developed Mind Palace memorization technique (the one Sherlock uses, but less dramatic)
  • WIP research paper about Three Body Problem w/ professor at UC Irvine

Give it a try. The admission rate is low as they have very small freshmen class. Your test scores are great and course rigor too. Just your GPA is a little bit low.

hey i know this guy aren’t you alex? you were in my stats class-- @HarvardMaths quasi22515 took AP Stats with me. I made a caltech chances post too, you copycat :slight_smile:

GPA is a little on the low side, but they like Eagle scouts.

Perhaps your low GPA is because you overloaded yourself with too many APs! Still I believe you may get in (unless the classes you got less than A were math or science related!).
