What are my realistic chances at getting into Carlson School of Management at the U of M if I get my GPA up?

Right now, you’re a “maybe” based on your class rank and ACT score. To improve your chances for admission, you should concentrate on raising your GPA and retake the ACT to try to get the score up by another 2-3 points. You’re currently a little below average compared to the academic profile of fall 2014 admitted freshman applicants for Carlson School of Management.

Average High School Rank: 91.7% (or Top 8.3%); 63% were in the top 10% of their class. 35% were in the top 11-25%.

Average ACT Score: 29.7. For CSM students, 83% scored between 28-36, and 16% scored between 24-27.

Your extracurricular activities are great and may be the factor that sways the decision to admit.

Totally agree with above. Your ECs are great, but Minnesota puts a lot of weight on numbers. Low reach for Carlson, match/safety for CLA. (You can transfer into Carlson from CLA, and then your ACT won’t be considered.)

Your best path, IMO, is to either plan on transferring from CLA or to study up for ACT. A 30 score would put you into a ‘match’ for Carlson.

Ended up getting a 29 on the statewide minnesota ACT this April, what do you guys think the chances are at now?

I’ll be retaking the ACT again in the fall of next year after Kaplan course and extensive studying.

Congrats! I’d say “low match”. A good chance at Carlson, but not certain by any means. I know you’re working on the GPA, too. Good luck!
