Chances for Carnegie Mellon MCS ED?

I am new at this, but I’ll rate you since you requested it. I would like to say your chances are solid especially if you do ED. Your scores are good as well as your EC’s. However, for some reason I want to say the Asian status hurts only because I know many with good credentials and got waitlisted. However, if you are a hard worker and stand out, which you do, you have it going for you. Best of luck.

Bump bump bump bump ;)

So mean :(

You are so in… Super jealous of your spectacular SAT scores :P

I think you have a solid chance, definitely! Your scores are great and your course load and ECs show great initiative and desire to succeed. I would be astonished if you didn’t get it.

what’s your GPA? Your test scores are great but your ECs seriously lack

Disclaimer: I don’t know how gap years affect college acceptance. At all. Regardless… you look like you have solid chances! Some of the stuff is a little vague, but I assume it’s all good stuff. You’ve done a ton of CS- related internships, experiences, etc. Good luck, and thanks for the chance :)

Thanks for chancing!

Dear FateGoneAwry,

I’m not sure where these other people are coming from with their comments about how you may/may not be admitted and how you are “lacking.”

in particular:

“your ECs seriously lack”
“I don’t see is passion”
“But, you do seem to lack a ‘spike’”

You are way overqualified. Getting into CMU is not going to be a problem for you at all. I’m not sure how your ECs are lacking, but your internships are beyond impressive and you have definitely proven yourself both interested and effective in the field you intend to pursue. From looking at your stats, I can definitely see passion, and your essays won’t hurt presenting “passion” either.

When you get in, please reply and let us all know.

FateGoneAwry,

You will get in. Take a gander at the admission rates for the college you are applying to, you’ll be just fine.

Like Handle said, a lot of these quacks aren’t exactly accurate with their ratings. I’m pretty sure you know that you have passion, and that your “break” year isn’t a break year if you spend it the way you said you have. All in all, Carnegie Mellon would be actin’ a fool if it didn’t accept you. Honestly, there are probably a lot more top notch colleges foaming at the mouth waiting to mail you an acceptance letter.

Regardless, let us know!

You would be an excellent candidate! If you have a strong upward trend of grades that helps, but your test scores are nearly untouchable and your EC’s are great. If anything could hurt your chances it’s being Asian, but you should be good. I’d say a mid-high match.

Edit to my last chance, since it won’t let me edit for some reason, I TAKE IT BACK. You have the stats and EVERYTHING for CMU. Very very very very likely. GOOD LUCK!

you’re in. your grades are great, your test scores are near perfect, and your various ec’s especially your internships give you an even better edge in the competition.

You’ll get in no problem buddy! Thanks for chancing me btw, good luck!

I would definitely say this is a match for you. Maybe even a low match. All parts of your transcript are excellent, and I’m sure the people at CMU will see that. The gap year, may, or may not, be a big factor in your acceptance, but I wouldn’t know as I’m not very familiar with gap years. Like I said before, you have a very good chance of getting in, so best of luck!

I’m going to go ahead and tell you that all of the chances above this have been a bunch of crap that you shouldn’t listen to (your decision whether or not to listen to me).

You have an awesome SAT, okay GPA, you freaking made USPhO semi-finals, and, at the same time, took 14 AP classes with all 5’s. If that isn’t awesome, I don’t know what is.

Who gives a crap whether or not you got two B’s in FRESHMAN YEAR SCIENCE? Just making USPhO semi-finals declares that null and void.

In my opinion, you’re in.

I got in! Thanks to everyone who chanced me!

Congrats FateGoneAwry! How does it feel? Ugh stupid question. Hope you enjoy there since its your 1st choice. Happy winters! :D
