Chances for Carnegie Mellon

Rising senior

SAT: 800 M, 680 CR, 790 W

GPA: 3.0 (FRESHMAN YEAR INCLUDED) (My weakest point, and will probably be the nail in the coffin for me when it comes to any good school. You can see there's a huge contrast between my GPA and my SAT, and it's because of issues that I'd rather not get into. I will say that there has been a huge upward trajectory though - from 2.6 to 3.5~3.7 freshman year to end of sophomore year. I heard CMU doesn't count freshman year grades, someone confirm this?)

APs:
AP US History (got a 4)
AP Calculus BC (already took the AP test for it with self studying and got a 5. Our school is extremely cruel and seeks to limit your AP options rather than encourage them, so I might not even get it.)
?? AP Physics C (^ ditto. Didn't take the AP for this one though.)

SAT 2s:
Physics (will take in October)
Math II (760, looking to retake and get an 800 because I got cocky and didn't study)

ECs:
Red Cross (I have a certificate for passing a certain amount of hours)

Misc:

I will complete the CS50 computer science course (courses.edx.org/courses/HarvardX/CS50x/2012/info) which is a Harvard intro-level computer science course. Apparently it's supposed to be a big deal..?

I'm extremely scared because I've looked forward to CMU since day 1, so if my dreams need to be shattered, shatter them, and tell me straightforwardly if I am an idiot for even considering this school.

Uh. First of all, your EC’s are lackluster. Second of all, do you have an explanation for your subpar grades in freshman year? Your SAT is decent. That course is nothing special. Many students take online courses including ones from Harvard (which isn’t more special than others).

If you have more EC’s, list them, otherwise, you are looking at disappointment.

Yes, I have my explanations. My ECs, yes, are a bit lackluster, but I still have time before ED. What ECs should I take on?

What I think I need to do more than anything is demonstrate an interest in computer science and that course was one of the ways to do so which is why I took it on. What other ECs should I partake in now that I have about less than 3 months before ED starts?

Come to think of it this is probably a long shot, but sometimes the unexpected happens, so I don’t know.

Also, I have absolutely no chance for SCS right?

Is it hard to get into CMU then transfer into SCS?
