packalldwy…For what it’s worth, I think you’re positioned very well to get into CBS next year. All of your stats (rank, ACT, etc.) fall well within the largest percentage group of admitted students for CBS, so keep doing what you’ve been doing up til now. You might improve your chances a little (and possibly help with potential merit scholarship money) by considering taking the SAT or possibly re-taking the ACT if you think your score might improve…but 30 is a very solid score to have going in.

Here is a link to the profile for admitted students from the fall of 2010. I would expect towards the end of the year they might update it to show incoming students for the fall of this year, but the numbers will probably remain about the same. Congrats on a great job done so far, and good luck with your college search!!

How much more beneficial would it be if I was a first-generation college student?

^From what I’ve read on the threads on CC being a first generation college student may give you a slight bump, but I’d be surprised if it would make a huge difference in your case. I think your resume is strong enough on its own to give you a solid chance at being admitted into CBS, but it’s possible they may take notice of it.

If you haven’t looked already, here is a link to the University wide scholarships offered at U of Minn. You will be automatically considered for any of these scholarships you meet the criteria for just by applying to the U. Given your class rank, you stand a good chance of receiving at least the Maroon or Gold National scholarship to help reduce the cost of OOS tuition (unless you already get reciprocity for being from one of the bordering states). Wisconsin maybe…guessing from your user id?

Actually Illinois… But big Packers fan.

You’ll definitely get in. However, if you want to make the honors program, the average ACT score is 34.
