Hi all,

I am applying going into my senior year of college (in Chemistry at Clemson) and will be going to graduate school for analytical chemistry afterwards. I took the revised GRE today and got a score of 161-Q and 150-V. I would like to retake it in order to try to improve my score in verbal, however I don't feel that it would be worth it if it is already good enough to get me into graduate school at Clemson and/or Furman. I sent my GRE scores to UF, U of Illinois (Champaign-Urbana), NC State, and Clemson, and I also plan on sending them to Furman. My undergraduate GPA so far is only right about 3.0, and my major GPA is not much better because I have gotten a few bad grades here and there and 2 D's in Chemical engineering classes, as that was my original major. I realize that my chances at any of those out of state schools are much lower with my sub-par GPA, than my chances at Furman or Clemson. I have taken so many credit hours that even if I get 4.0 for my senior year it would likely only raise my GPA up to 3.1 or 3.2. This summer I am currently in my second semester of undergraduate research, and I will likely do a third semester this coming spring. I am working for a fairly established professor at Clemson, but will probably change my research group for my third semester. I am expecting that I can get fairly decent letters of recommendation. Also I was wondering if Furman or Clemson would be significantly different in price for graduate school? I am hoping that I can get enough of a stipend either for master's or Ph.D that it will pay for my tuition and living expenses, rent, etc...
(Oh also, I am in Tiger Band at Clemson which I feel that has had a negative impact on my GPA because I had a hard time managing my time wisely. I don't know how much of a part extracurriculars play in getting accepted if at all, but I am also very involved with my church group on campus.)
Thanks!
