chances for child of alumni

gpa, 84.239, thats with all classes, very high rising trend
SAT- 570 math 500 cr

dad and sister(current) have gone here
varsity tennis 4 years, captain
scholar athlete,
chess club 2 years
cross country 2 years
school tennis coach 3 years

applied for summer session

i have similar stats...600m 490cr...and a 3.59uw GPA. i know that the gpa is 2/3 and SAT is 1/3, i wonder if being the child of an alum has much wieght for admission at main. Also i plan on retaking my SAT ( i know i can raise my CR at least 50 pts) does anyone know that if i am rejected with my current sat scores but score better this jan. will i be reconsidered?

alum association has a very very very small impact. The GPA is by far the most important part. The alum association at penn state is soo big it owuld be crazy to preferentiate PSU alums kids.

got this email from an old forum user....

yes! they put a HUGE emphasis on alumni. Your father and sister will be of importance, but not your uncle, they just look at immediate family. My mother, father, grandfather and grandmother (grandparents do count) and brother all went. My brother was a mediocre high school student, GPA was less around a 2.9...and he got in with no problem, he was told in an interview at one point (this was back in 95 things could have changed but I doubt it) that as long as he maintained a 2.7 he'd have no problems getting in. Of course it depends on the major, he went for hotel restaurant management. I can't get in despite alumni and high credentials because the school of nursing is full and not accepting app's...

hope this was helpful.

bump?????????????? ?

i really want to get in, can anyone help me out with my previous question, if i do not get accepted later, but score better on my SAT in Jan. will they re-review my application, or one i send in my app. is it just a done deal? Also melon can u post on here when the status of ur app changes on the psu website, i will do the same

np ,man i had the same quueston about the SAT< but im not taking in jan. the lady said for the noovem, theyre reveiwing bulk next month. idont about jan, i guess if your really borderline and 40 points will do it then maybe they'll keep the app till january, call the adcoms up and talk to them.

lemondrop whered you go??!? if you dont have facts please dont state opinions in this post. thanks

My "opinions" as you so call them are from information I got from my next door neighbor--an admissions officer for PSU.

thats a first..

not

umm ok. I am not trying to start anything so I was just trying to help. You can believe whatever you want.
