Hi, I am a current 8th grade boy applying to choate. I go to one of the best independant day schools in the country located close to choate and a lot of people from my school go to top boarding schools. I have had B's and B+'s my first term of eighth grade which is what they look at but last year i had mostly a-'s and a few b+'s. I am in honors english with a steady b+. I was on the ninth grade varsity basketball team as a seventh grader and I am on it this year again. I also row crew. My mom went to choate also. I am really into business and science which I wrote about in my application. I think i wrote a really deep and powerful application. My ssat scores were a bit low (70). I have my own website which focuses on cleaning up and maintaining the coral reefs around the world and I made a documentary about it. Choate is also the only school im applying to from a school where people apply to 6 or 7 boaridng schools. Thanks!

I think you’ll do great. The SSAT score is the only low thing, but it’s not a heavy weight. What is your class rank? B’s are typically not accepted, but if it really is a selective school, then the B’s are probably good.

thanks. anyone else?

Yeah, the website and legacy are going to be big boosts. Still, the B+'s and 70% SSAT are going to be detrimental. If your essays were really (and I mean REALLY) good, you have a shot. When I applied I went in with an 89% SSAT, straight A’s, several varsity sports, and a few specialty E.C.s. I was a waitlist, but I did not spend nearly enough time on my essays, and my interview was only so-so (not to mention FA need). It was far from my first choice school, and I think that showed in my writing. The essay’s/interview weigh extremely hard on your chances, so as long you believe that those were strong points in your application, you have a decent chance.

ya thats what i was thinking… I also wanted to mention that my recommendations will be very good

anybody else have something to say?

I think you are a good candidate.
How seriously have you been rowing? I heard the row crew if done seriously in a team might have an edge. I guess Choate has a rowing team???

I went to college near Choate and I wanted my younger brother to go to Choate but he did not.

I guess it is one of the best and I hope to hear a good news from you. Good luck.
