Chances for Claremont

I'm an african american freshman at a Historically Black University currently looking to transfer for the Fall 2010 semester. My high school gpa was terrible at only a 2.5, for lack of effort.

So far my college resume looks like this:
27 ACT
3.7 gpa this semester with only about 17 credit hours, next semester will be 20 hours.
Freshman Senator on Student Government
Working a job with the state while in school
Leading a campus ministry
Hopefully some community service hours by the end of the year

My major is political science. I really love the Claremont Consortium and was wondering if there was a chance of me getting into any as a transfer.

Note. Pitzer is off limits as they are not offering financial aid for transfer students this year.

Any help? It would be much appreciated.

Harvey Mudd would be a bad idea for you just because they focus on engineering and computer science. Scripps is all girls. If you’re writing off Pitzer that leaves Pomona and Claremont McKenna. I don’t know about Pomona, but I’m a student at Claremont McKenna and they didn’t accept many transfers, and your stats are a bit on the low side for both schools. However there is no harm in trying, especially if your essays and recommendations are stellar. Just remember the application is due very soon.

Since you’re currently a fr with only 1 sem of college completed, your HS record (gpa and rigor of coursework) and test scores are going to be weighted more than what you’ve done in college.
