Chances for Class of 2021

Hi im a prospective female applicant from South Carolina. First off, I would just like to mention that I know that Tulane is most likely a reach for me, but there is something about the school that has really drawn me in throughout high school. For this reason, I am planning on applying to see what happens. I am interested in journalism and communications so I will be applying into comm. I have not written my “why Tulane” essay yet, but I have written my common app essay, and I think it is very strong and genuinely reflects who I am as a person, and tells the admissions reader something about myself that is not able to be inferred from my transcripts, test scores, and extra curriculars.

Actually @wildflowers98 I think you have a pretty decent shot. Your grades are good, you will have 8 AP courses when finished which shows strong rigor, and while the ACT of 29 is in the bottom 25th percentile for Tulane, it is still a score a lot of accepted students have. Not sure where the 1310 puts you, it will take time to see the percentiles for the new SAT. But I would say that you are in very decent shape. If you apply ED by Nov. 5, I think your chances are even stronger.

Thank you so much for your help, @fallenchemist ! I really like Tulane from what I have researched online and heard from students I know who go there. I live 11 hours away and have not had the opportunity to visit campus, but I hope I will be able to sometime this school year. Ideally, my parents would prefer to send me to an instate school due to financial reasons, but they are still letting my apply elsewhere just to see what happens. For this reason and the fact that I’m incredibly indecisive, I won’t be applying ED. Would you recommend applying EA or RD?

EA, absolutely @wildflowers98. There is no commitment, your chances for merit money are better, and you find out sooner. Easy call.

I got my SAT scores back and I got a 1410. Will my score help increase my chances? @fallenchemist

From 1310 to 1410? Absolutely, @wildflowers98 . In fact, I would shoot off an email to your admissions person telling them the good news and saying you wanted them to have the information now since you were not sure how long it might take for them to get the official result. Be sure to give them the CR and M subscores as well.
