Chances for CMU?

Approximately 3.85 GPA weighted, taken majority honors and AP classes getting mainly B's and some A's. 2020 SAT- 700 writing 700 reading 620 math. 12 essay. 30 ACT. 680 Bio E SATII. I also volunteer at a summer camp. My sister graduated from there, and my dad is a professor if those make any difference. Also, I am from Pennsylvania.
Thanks!

what schools inside CMU are you interested in?

probably school of science or college of humanities but i am currently undecided.

Low SAT, SAT2. Improve upon that and I think you shud get into HSS at the very least. That math score is alarmingly low. Your CMU connection will most certainly help btw

ok thanks! But yea the connection is really the only reason that I am applying

“But yea the connection is really the only reason that I am applying”

What does that mean? That you’re only applying to please your dad? That you think that’s the only way you stand a chance? I don’t understand the logic, please elaborate.

No, I am applying because I would go for free or something like that if I got in. I would probably apply as a local reach school anyway but that is one of the main reasons.

Heh, I remember one of my professors told their kid that if they went to CMU they could have their college fund when they graduated since they’d be going to college for free.

Anyway, compared to a lot of people I’ve done alumni interviews with your scores are a little on the low side, but I tend to talk with people applying to CIT/SCS, so if you want H&SS you might have a better chance.

Are you actually interested in the school? You might want to find out if CMU has reciprocity agreements with any other schools. I’ve heard some other places do it, so it might be a way to let you cast a wider net in your low-cost college search.

I’m pretty sure you’ll get in. You have me beat by a lot GPA-wise, just a lower SAT but that can be easily changed (getting a tutor bumped me from a 1960 to a 2180). I’m pretty sure they pay VERY little attention to subject tests – I got a 590 on Physics and 680 on Math 1… yeah pretty low, I had an awful physics teacher who got fired and I learned most of the math in middle school and forgot it, and had to learn all the other physics so I couldn’t study. Plus the dad working there factor, I was a legacy but your situation is better by a longshot. I got into H&SS and CIT so you’re in perfectly good shape for any college within CMU. Good luck anyway!

Well thanks for the encouragement and thoughts! we’ll see what happens!
