<p>Hello there, I was wondering what would my chances be for CMU. The schools I applied to were Tepper and MCS. (not realistically expecting Tepper, stating this right now)</p>
<p>SAT - 2230 (700r, 770m, 760w)
GPA- 3.58/4 UW, 4.49/5 W
42/764 class rank
SAT II - 800 MathII, 780 Chemistry, 770 US History</p>
<p>As to the rest, I've been told slightly above average (includes essays, recs, ECs, awards, etc.).</p>
<p>If you could provide some feedback, I would highly appreciate it!</p>
<p>Excellent SAT II scores, SAT I score is within range (CR a tad on the lower end), and GPA is passable. Do you have an upward trend?</p>
<p>If you would like more people to respond to your thread, I suggest posting your awards, ECs, and the like. You stating the standards or each does not give anyone else a decent picture to work with.</p>
<p>Well, I guess I attempt to elaborate (bear with me, sometimes my phone typing is rather poor)</p>
<p>To start, I indeed have a strong upward trend in my grades.</p>
<p>Awards: AP Scholar with Distinction, National Merit Semi-finalist, Multiple small awards from my school (only come from school, not too big, though I have ~7-10 of them)</p>
<p>EC’s:
In school:
Mathletics (9-12, captain from 11 onwards, took 1st all but 11th, took 2nd for that year, 12th is virtually guaranteed 1st since he have enough points to literally not show up to the final meet and still win)
Young Engineers (10-12, treasurer from 11 onwards, cut 10th, came in 4th 11th, 12th projected to be 2nd, maybe even 1st if the 1st team implodes on E&M as they did last year)
Programming Club (11-12, co-founder, current VP, working to get a nationally viable Algebra 1 teaching program, expected to be complete by late April)
As to sports, I don’t have any in-school, but I do compete in NASTAR for skiing, and I just missed states twice, in 10th and 11th (12th I couldn’t compete due to family crisis)</p>
<p>Essay: Wrote about getting lost in an airport and getting sent back by a friendly (lol) stranger in China, everyone who read it said it should be left as is.
Recs: teachers all loved me, and counselor I felt might have raved about my ability a bit.</p>
<p>Other: I participated in the founding of a cultural exchange program in which I was a treasurer (between US and China), and got an intern under my Uncle in a business in China. I’m also Chinese (sort of obvious by now, lol).</p>
<p>I hope this is enough info for others to get a picture with!</p>
<p>EDIT: well, I knew Penn was a reach, but the rejection statement hurts. Ah well, not like that was the only chance I’d have to get in there.
And I almost forgot to say, would a 218 PSAT score make any difference whatsoever?</p>

<p>The GPA is a bit low, but your scores are great! I’m a junior interested in CMU (it’s my first choice) so I’d love to know whether you got in or not. Your extracurriculars are good, so I think you definitely have a decent chance of getting in.</p>

<p>@ Jlpaisner yeah, and I feel a major reason is that for some inexplicable excuse I did not realize that one could apply to a single school should one not get into a specific program (I do believe that I would have a much stronger chance for Engineering over M&T, lol).</p>

<p>I think at the least, CMU MCS is a low reach for you. Your GPA looks low, but your class rank looks ok. Good luck!</p>
