So I’m 16 and in my sophomore year, not so long ago probably about 2 or 3 months ago when I was 15 I got suspended for having a vape device on me and I wasn’t caught exactly using it but we arnt allowed to have any at school I know it was a terrible choice and it was one of the worst decisions I have ever made as I feel I won’t be accepted into any colleges. I’m only thinking of applying to three instate colleges Arizona State University, northern Arizona university, and university of Arizona. Do you think I have any chnace to get in? My grades are all A’s and b’s and I’m trying to get the 300 hohr community service band
basically I was suspended for two days bc I told the truth and I was a good kid but I’m rlly nervous
Colleges’ primary concern is the safety of others, and your indiscretion is harmful primarily to yourself. So that’s the good news.
The bad news is that you will have to answer honestly and truthfully any questions regarding your disciplinary history, regardless of whether or not it is on your transcript. That’s a red flag at best. Since you don’t present a danger to others, colleges will still consider your application. Just show remorse and lessons learned as part of the explanation. Stay squeaky clean from here on, though. Your probably won’t get another chance. It’s forgivable to make a mistake, but it’s unforgivable not to learn from them.
Have you visited NAU? Hard to picture vaping or even toking is much of a negative for admissions there - it’s a pretty relaxed place. As for UA and ASU, both have generous admissions policies; if this single suspension is your only issue, you take responsibility and moved on my guess is this won’t prevent your admission.
It will have no impact. Be honest on your app about the suspension.

I find it’s so weird. I was suspended in HS (for going to my locker at the wrong time on top of some lateness demerits). I don’t remember it ever being a thing at all in college admissions. Are schools just looking for any reason to distinguish between candidates? I can’t imagine this being a big deal ever, at any school.
