Chances for Colleges? I will try and chance back!

Hi,
I’m going to a be a senior this school year, and I’m currently working on making a decent (and balanced) list of colleges to apply to. But, I feel like a lot of my schools are reaches, so I was wondering if anyone could help me out and let me know about my chances for the schools I’ve listed and then maybe some similar schools that aren’t necessarily as hard.
Thanks!

Colleges:
Stanford - top choice
Columbia
Carnegie Mellon - top choice
University of Chicago
Tufts
Rice

GPA:
Weighted: 4.55
Unweighted: 3.83
SAT (I did quite badly on it and I’ve only taken it once): 1890 (Reading: 660, Math: 630, Writing: 600)
SAT II: Math I: 720, Math II 620, U.S. History 710 (I’m planing on taking chemistry in the beginning of the school year too when I have more time to revise and I might retake math II)
ACT: 35 (English: 36, Math: 31, Reading: 36, Science: 35, Writing 11) (this was my 3rd time taking it)
AP (I haven’t received the scores yet but Ill update when I have): English Lit and U.S. History
I will be taking English Language, US Government, Calculus and Physics 1 (algebra based)
Rank: 4/90ish
I recieved all As and Bs in 8th and 9th grade and I’ve had all As in 10th and 11th grade.

About me:
Gender: Female
Race: White
School: Private Catholic school (not Catholic though)
Born: England
Live in: Louisiana (moved in 2006, about 6 months after Hurricane Katrina)

ECS:
I will be the president of Diversity Club for senior year (since 9th grade)
SPCA Club (since 10th grade)
I was chosen as one of 12 students to go on a service trip to build a house in Belize (however I was hospitalized with Pancreatitis the week before so I couldn’t go) but I attended meetings and planned fundraisers for the trip all junior year and will be working with the next group of students to go through senior year
Identity team (it worked with the service trip and helped with the fundraisers) (in 9th grade, 11th and will be 12th)
National Honor Society (Since 10th grade) (will be an officer next year)
Mu Alpha Theta (Since 10th Grade) (will be an officer next year)
Tri-M Music honor society (since 11th grade) (was an officer in 11th grade and will be next year)
French Club (since 10th grade)
Dead Poets Society (since 9th grade) (was an officer last year and will be next year)
Debate Team (since 11th grade)
Choir (since 8th grade)
I will be on student council for 12th grade

My school requires that we reach a certain amount of hours of service each year, so since 8th grade I’ve done at least 25 hours of service.

Other things:
I placed 2nd at a MAO competition in a group doing gemini (a type of math game)
Myself and a partner also placed 3rd in the state playing gemini at the MAO state tournament
In 9th grade, my group and I placed 1st in state in a science competition and 2nd regionally
I’ve also gotten a french award for the national french exam and I think one from the national Latin exam one year
A few girls from our choir were also chosen to sing at a luncheon for a state senator.

Thats all I can think of right now
I know my SAT is really low but my ACT is quite high ( I probably wont submit my SAT if I don’t have to, but I’m thinking about taking it again and properly studying considering I didn’t before)
Thanks so much!
I will chance back if I can!

Oh, I also thinking about majoring in some kind of engineering. But if for some reason I end up hating it, I will still most likely stay in a STEM field

All of those schools seem like they may be reaches for you, although if you leave off your SAT scores and bring your GPA up drastically your senior year you might be okay applying ED/EA. Good luck!

What type of engineering? And if you aim for schools that your stats are higher than like VA Tech I bet you would get a ton of scholarship money

Your GPA and ACT score are really great; they will definitely make you a competitive candidate for these schools.

Stanford - reach
Columbia - reach
Carnegie Mellon - low reach/reach
University of Chicago - reach
Tufts - low reach
Rice - don’t know much about this school, sorry!

Just work on those essays and you have a great shot!

Stanford - high reach
Columbia - reach
Carnegie Mellon - low reach if not comp sci or engineering. Otherwise high reach
University of Chicago - reach
Tufts - low reach
Rice - Low reach. Match if you work on essays, bring up your GPA and leave out that SAT score

you’re a very competitive applicant. With the exception of HYPSM, your chances seem solid

I’m thinking about chemical engineering right now. Do you have any suggestions for good engineering schools? Or just in general?

@Bobbx123

I agree with all of the people above. I think you have a great chance at CMU and Stanford. Write great essays and I’d say you are in! Good Luck!

You will need to read through the comments cause I got a 31 on ACT and I added some colleges (BostonU, UTAustin, Northeastern)

Nice job on the 35! The gemini ECs seem really interesting.

For chemical engineering, you have a solid chance at UMD (ranked 18), Virginia Tech is a maybe a safety but it has a great program (12), Georgia Tech (4), Stanford (3) and apply to Cal tech (1) maybe be a low reach though

Stanford - high reach
Columbia - high reach
Carnegie Mellon - Depends on which school you apply to. could be anything from low reach to high reach
University of Chicago - mid/high reach
Tufts - match/low reach
Rice - low reach

@Bobbx123 Awesome thanks so mucnh, I’ll look into those! Thank you!!

I have an updated list with a few more colleges, if people could also consider my chances for these I’d really appreciate it!
University of Maryland - College Park
Georgia Tech
Berkeley
University of Pennsylvania
Boston University
University of Michigan - Ann Arbor
Cornell
Case Western Reserve University

UC Berkeley is a public school, can you afford the $55K per year fees?

@“aunt bea” i mean I’d try to get some form of scholarship but yes its not entirely out of the question

bump

If you want scholarship money and a good program check out Ohio State’s National Buckeye award. Ohio state is 12th in the nation for your major

@Bobbx123 oh cool, I’ll have a look, thanks
