Letters of recommendation: i read them both (my teachers asked me to). one of them made me blush a lot. the other just made me smile. i didnt' read my counselor's, but i think it's at the very least good.

Essay: some of you have read my essay. one person told me she really liked reading it, and in general i've been told it's strong! if you would like to read my essay so you can get a better feel, ask! please though, don't ask if you're not ED yourself; i will investigate! lol

i'm mainly asking for chances because i know i'm pretty weak EC-wise. i'd like to know how severely that will hinder my chances.

thanks!!!

EDIT: if i get rejected from Columbia, how do i stand for Princeton, Stanford, Rice, UT and NYU?? I took a CR practice section yesterday and made a 720. I plan to retake SAT I on January.

I don’t think u’ll get in… a 630 on CR is just terrible. you shoulda re-took and atleast bumped it to a 700 - 720

mm well i made a 660… is that still horrible?? :/

no it is not horrible… but overall, stats are a bit on the low side but still worthy of acceptance… who knows good luck

anyone else care to share their opinion?

It’s a very long shot, but not impossible

You stand a good chance. Maybe your rank should be a little higher. Your stats are on the low side, but you are still in the top 10% and you have really good ec’s. Hispanic + first-gen = awesome hook. Good-luck!

I think you have a good chance. Good grades/rank, nice ECs, test scores are a bit low BUT you have your race/first generation on your side! Plus, I’m assuming ED will boost chances of acceptance.

All the best!

half don’t think i’ll get in, and half say i have a pretty good shot. now i’m more confused :/

but oh well… i just have to wait!!

thanks guys :D

they are just jealous that they couldnt be hispanic. You stand a good chance dont let idiots who think anything below a 700 is bad tell u ur stats

thanks kryptos!! i’ll still retake the SAt’s though. just to be on the safe side if i don’t get accepted by columbia

its kind of a reach. improve the CR, and move up in rank and you would also be a match. chance me?

http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/815799-chance-me-recommend-colleges-please.html#post1063570835</a></p>

probably a high reach due to class rank and lack of good enough ECs. but if essays and recs really were that good, and because of ethnicity, and especially with ED, might go to mid-reach…

chance me please!
http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/818137-chance-me-emory-columbia-yale-etc-will-chance-back.html</a></p>

I think you have a pretty good chance at all of those schools except for maybe Princeton. Of course you’re going to get into UT and you have pretty good stats and a bunch of hooks so you stand a good chance at Stanford and Columbia and very, very good chance at Rice.

or kryptos, they dont want to lie to someone with a low sat reading…
i would look at ut and rice, s and p are high reaches
no offense, but your only real draws are first-gen and hispanic, your ecs are basic and your scores are mid-low

the fact that you’re hispanic alone will increase you chances by like 200% in my opinion

Your URM and first generation will help you, without them you wouldn’t have a chance. I say maybe a 45-50% chance. Your EC’s are good but not spectacular (meaning they don’t make up for your GPA) But I think you have a chance.

Please chance back a fellow hispanic [not a speaker though :(]

It might be hard to get in but if your letters of recommendation are that good and so is your essay then you could get in. PM me your essay. i’m not ED at Columbia.
