Well, after thinking about colleges for a while, I decided that I want to go to Columbia. I really love the atmosphere of the college; it's like a little haven in Uptown and right outside are the hustle and bustle of NYC. Plus I really love the Core Curriculum because it let's you become well rounded.

The thing is, I'm not rich at all, plus I don't know the financial aid information of Columbia yet

You look like a strong applicant. May I inquire as to what HS you are at to gauge the strength of it?

I didn't qualify for finaid at Columbia, but most of my fellow '09-ers did get the amount of finaid that they were expecting.

If you come to the city for a tour, I might be one of your tour guides come September.

I wish you the best of luck and hope to see you on campus in September of 2006.

La Canada HIgh School haha.

Ah. One of my friends just graduated from there. She is off to Cornell.

Once again, I wish you the best of luck on your application.

Is she Tiffany Chan?

Haha. Yes. You know Tiffany from the orchestra at La Canada?

Yeah. She was in my AP BIo class this year. Cool person. Also was in my AP Stats class last year.

If you need a lot of financial aid, why not wait to apply ED anywhere and that way you can compare packages?

I agree. However, if you REALLY want to go to Columbia, applying ED really will help. You can always negotiate after you're in, though.

You have to realize that almost all Ivy league schools will give the same amount of fin-aid because they all have 100% need policies. And the amount of fin aid that you get will depend on your FAFSA not the college itself perse. Therefore applying ED really does not hurt ur fin aid at all. I applied ED and believe me I am not rich at all, and I got a great fin aid package.

But different colleges still offer different packages. They have different ways of catering to your need. Applying EA/RD lets you compare those packages.

Personally I believe that applying ED gives you a great boost for getting in. I wouldnt risk a shot of getting into the college of my dreams in order to maybe get a 1000 loan instead of 1000 in work study.

thats true but it may not be the college of his dreams, and for some people financial aid is really important. If financial aid is a MAJOR factor then EA or RD are better options.

Haha. Thanks you guys. I hope I get in!
