Your thoughts?

bump......

Unlikely, but worth a shot.

bump.......

It does seem sort of unlikely. You need some filler awards, not student of the month lol. If it was student of the year then yeah. But not month lol. Adcoms will laugh. Get like 200 hours of comm serv. and boost sat scores and become president of comp club. Then I think youll have a much better shot

what makes u wanna go to cornell (middle of nowhere) and nyu?

^ I live in NY.

Um... well, you don't seem to have many awards. Try getting a state-wide or at least county-wide award at least. Also, because you are not a URM, your SAT scores are average, maybe even a little low for Columbia (and for all your other schools too... even NYU and Northwestern, your two non-Ivies, have average SAT scores in the mid-1300s out of 1600), so I'd get them above at least a 2200.

I would also try and get a leadership position in at least one of your activities. You have a lot of community service, but a lot of people actually have 100+ hours for four years, to be blunt. I think I had around 250, for example, and I got waitlisted this year. Next year will be even harder, they say.

Honestly, I think it's worth a shot, like a previous poster said, but with Columbia's acceptance rate, it's a long-shot. Possible, but you have to be lucky. If you really want to go to Columbia and are undecided on a major, I would apply for CEES rather than the College, also. And find a safety school, like a public school. Although your stats are pretty good, it's better to be cautious these days, because even your non-Ivies are really competitive now.

I think columbias acceptance rate was the lowest out of all the colleges this year at 9%...

I'd be less worried about your SAT scores and more worried about your lackluster ECs. You're not really involved at your school. But your medical/hospital volunteering is interesting.

You need recs from people who KNOW you. And while a rec from a faculty member could help, one from a teacher or administrator who respects you would go a lot further. But coming from NY, where a huge chunk of their applicants are in-state, I don't know if you'll be competitive at all in their pool.
