SAT Needs to be brought up.

And with only what you stated above, I can’t tell if you have a chance or not. Any EC’s? Awards? Special things?

http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1008044-chances-me.html

Dance (dance team, director/choreographer for annual cultural celebration, began my own free dance class at the local library (i choreograph pieces and teach kids,) started a charity dance group that got invited to perform at 6 flags great adventure and you know, things like red cross and american cancer society)

about 270 hrs of community service (helped out at summer camps and language schools)

yearbook editor for all four years

this “peer leader” program that helps underclassmen adjust to high school life

math hnr society

published in a literary journal

*still waiting to see if i’m gettin into National Honor Society

congressional recognition award (or something like that) for my art piece

Definitely bring up your SAT scores.

Your EC seems very strong, especially with the Piano and Dance awards, along with the history day competition. Emphasize how you are unique from other people. I know that one of the people who went to Stanford from our school last year stated that he was ranked top 10 in DDR in the country. He didn’t have great grades, but he was accepted into Stanford while some geniuses from school did not.

First I was worried that the EC was short. But if you have many awards and stuff, then it seems good to me.

For Columbia, however, they are really unpredictable. I would leave it at Reach for now.

Emphasize your achievements, bring up your SAT score (otherwise it might be high reach), and also look for your leadership experiences.

Anything that shows leadership?

Leadership

wow. most of it has to do with dance is that good or bad?

and hahah at the DDR thing. thats great.

as for the thing that makes me unique, maybe the fact that the whole dance thing is 100% self-taught. and it’s hip hop.

which is really uncommon where i live. (lol i dont live in california)

If it was something little (per say, started magic club), then no.

But you’ve done many great things with something that you were passionate about, which is a great thing.

alright well thank you very much for the positivity.

i know i have to bring my SAT scores up, but what about my SAT IIs?
are they good enough?

i hear that SAT IIs aren’t as important as SATs

Wait her scores are in the 700s she still needs to brinng them up.

So the 730 and 760 aren’t high enough, right?

for a place like Columbia, SAT IIs are very important. I don’t know about US History, but it can use some work along with Chem a little.

In addition…

My school doesn’t rank, so I don’t know where I stand compared to my classmates. But according to Naviance scattergrams (lol) I think my GPA should be good to go. I hope…

Also, my school is insanely competitive.
INSANELY.

We pump out ivy league students like no other, and I’m scared that will work AGAINST me…
because compared to other students, my GPA isn’t the highest…

We have students that take classes at Princeton University and everything and I’m really scared I won’t compare to them
