Chances for Computer Science (OOS)

<p>Hey guys, I was considering applying here. What do you think my chances are?</p>

<p>I am a hispanic male from New York.</p>

<p>GPA: 3.4 unweighted.
-My highschool is one of the most vigorous in the nation, in the top 100 for most prestigious public and private high schools (I go to a public school). So grade inflation is completely non existent. Our valedictorian (out of 1500 students) has a 3.9 My school doesn't rank students, but I would guess top 25% if I had to.</p>

<p>SAT: 2050 - 650 R - 800 M - 600 W</p>

<p>ACT: 31 Composite</p>

<p>I have taken 4 APs during my high school career:
AP Comp Sci AB
AP European History
AP American History
AP Biology</p>

<p>Extra Curriculars:
-National Hispanic Scholar Award (Honorable Mention)
-Assistant teacher in my school's intro to computer science class. I am currently the only student in my school (and district) to be doing a teaching role like this.
-Varsity Football
-Various overseas voulenteer works. ~100 hours </p>

<p>I also have very strong recommendations, especially from my computer science teacher. Who recieved two masters from Carnegie Mellon. He basically feels i am one of the most ambitious students he has ever come accross (at least in the field of computer science)</p>

<p>^Agreed. Your grades aren’t great but they’re average for a MD admit (if they’re unweighted, that is). </p>

<p>Your SAT scores and courseload, and your extracurriculars, your recs, are far ABOVE average - really great to have an 800 SAT M scores, that is tough to come by so congratulations. So I say no problem.</p>

<p>Considering that you are Hispanic, you may see some small scholarship…nothing to bring it down to the cost of in-state school, but esp. if you are passionate about comp sci, a good rec from your teacher/your strong SAT score might have them put a little money your way.</p>
