Hey man. IMHO, Cooper Union is a reach for you at the moment. You are around their 25th percentile for your SAT, BUT you have a very clear dedication to engineering, at least as far as coursework goes. Try to do really well in all your math classes, and try the SAT and ACT a third time(if you can), because you may improve by fall. Your GPA is decent, and your ECs would benefit if you could show more of a math/engineering focus in them (maybe start an engineering club?). If you write a killer essay that shows your passions and strengths, keep working hard and you have a chance. It won’t be easy, though. Chance back? http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1518818-chance-me-top-universities-low-income-urm.html

Thank you so much! I am actually writing an essay that shows my passion towards engineering!

You’re welcome. Also, are you dead set on Cooper Union? Purdue is another superb engineering school, with more relaxed admissions standards/competitiveness compared to Cooper Union.

Yep! I will be doing early decision for Cooper Union.

I visited Cooper Union last week and I loved it!

Then keep working hard and do your best.Good luck!

I agree cooper union would be a reach (especially since they have an 8% acceptance rate) but I mean 25th percentile means there’s a shot! I’d look at it as like a dream school. Good Luck though!

Bump! I will chance back

You should chance me! I’m the thread with the penguin when you click college chances

Bump! I will chance back!

Comparing to past year CU admission statistics, your test scores are definitely on the low side.

But do not lose hope yet. CU’s full tuition policy was abolished and although it still covers half of the tuition fees, you can expect a significant number of outstanding applicants to go for schools with better overall reputation.

Should try to get your SAT to 2000, or ACT to 30 at least, and you would have a decent (but still slightly below average) chance.

Here’s my stats:

Bump! I will chance back!

You have a good courseload and solid ECs, although your test scores may hurt you. I would work on studying very hard for the SATs and ACTs, and either take new SAT 2s or retake the ones you have. With higher test scores, I believe you have a much better chance at Cooper Union  Best of luck to you!

Not sure if you’ll have time to retake the SAT or take the ACT, but if your score was slightly higher, it’d be better! Early decision will definitely make it a little easier for you!
Good luck! And chance me!

Yes. Def better test scores would help, especially because you are asian. Tough competition in test scores…

Bump! Tenchars000
