Also, during the end of my junior yr, my father lost his job. As a result I worked during the summer to help pay the bills, and the mortgage at a physicians clinic.
During the beginning of senior yr, my father had kidney failure and was unable to take care of himself. As a result, I have been taking care of him by taking him for dialysis etc.

Ye my mid year grades have taken a beating as a result of my current situation. Please be honest about my chances. I wrote an essay about my current situation and one about my research involving diabetes( I am a diabetic).

Also, I may qualify for the HEOP program at Cornell. I have sent all the requested documents, etc. What do you think my chances are?

Your chances look REALLY good, aside from a few poor grades.

Keep it up.

Im a senior btw. I hope I get in. Any other opinoins

HEOP might give you the edge you need. Your standardized scores leave a slight something to be desired. Your EC's should have had more of a focus. I think you have an OK chance, with HEOP, your odds improve.

what a great essay topic

ye bobbobbob my personal statement was about that. I am also writing another essay on the poverty I faced as a result of this...... Do you think strong essays will help?

btw I applied to Human Ecology as undecided and am instate

Of course they'll help... essays can give you just the tip you need to get into the top colleges, so long as they're not generic and boring.

eh, even if you have fantastic essays i dont think your grades are up to part with the average accepted Cornell student. It's worth applying but your SR year grades aren't exactly what Cornell is looking for.

well gomestar im pretty sure I wouldve gotten better grades had I not been in this situation. My father had kidney failure in sept and as a result, I have been taking care of him, etc. Its been a very stressful and burdensome time for me. Do you think my chances are completely ruined? Cornell is my top choice by far

gomestar can you please respond!!!

not totally ruined, but make perfect essays describing your situation. you'll hav e to prove you can do the Cornell load.

gomestar do you think you could critique my additional essay about this situation? I tried to convey all aspects about everything you mentioned into the essay? I would greatly appreciate it

Asian male with mediocre standardized test scores hurts your chances, but I'm sure you're situation will help. Just don't overemphasize it in your essays. ECs are good too.

I didn't realize you applied to Human Eco. This improves your chances somewhat.

im curious bongoboy how does that improve my chances? Also, about 15 kids are applying to cornell from my school. I, however, am the only one applying to human ec. Does cornell limit the number of people who apply to different schools?

It's easier to get into Human Eco than CAS, engineering, architecture, and some majors in CALS.

What do you mean by your last question? I don't understand.

fair chance...have good essays as always

well lets say that 4 apply to eng, 5 to a &s, 1 to ilr, 4 to ag and 1 to ec, will cornell only take 2-3 students in total or will they take whoever they think deserves it. IOW, do hey have quotas for the number of students coming from each school.

They claim they will take as many as are qualified/they want, but I happen to believe that they are unlikely to take more than 2-3 unless your school is a place like Exeter or some other type of Ivy feeder.
