-I'm a white junior from the best school in NJ.
-GPA is calculated like this: A=4, A-=3.67, etc; add .33 for an honors class, add an additional .33 for APs. 90-93=A-, 94+=A
-Applying ED to A&S
-Legacy at Cornell who donates a LOT of money

-GPA UW: 3.7
-GPA W: 4.0, maybe 4.1 (I get a lot of A-s in honors and B+s in APs)
-SAT: 710 CR 730 M 780 W (2220 total)
-APs: Lang and Composition (5), Literature (5), BC Calc (5), Psycology (5), European History (5), American History (5), Government and Politics (5)

-My strength is in writing, so I expect a great essay
-Great recs
-ECs: won 3 statewide writing contests, got writing published in a national magazine, started an animal shelter, French Club, school newspaper, Jewish Club

-Notes: school doesn't rank, but it does send about 25 kids each year to ivy/ivy caliber schools; I'm probably top 15%, maybe top 10%

With my legacy and strong concentration on writing, I think I have a shot
What do you guys think?

Sorry to take over your thread but I have a quick question about ED.

Cornell's website states that "Early-decision applicants are also strongly urged to take the SAT Subject Tests no later than November". If I would apply ED to CAS, would the SAT Subject Tests taken in November be acceptable to fulfill the requirement?

^^
Yes, are you sure you're smart enough for Cornell ;)?

Lopo-how much is "A lot of Money"? Is it over half a million, if so, you are in. Period. If its less but still a sizeable amount, more than 100k, you are probably still in, but not an auto-admit. On your own, even without legacy or a rich daddy, you are a strong applicant. Coupled with both, you are nearly impervious.

I'm not exactly sure how much he donates; I never really asked him. But he does have season tickets to every sport and gives a lot of money to various things like the building of new buildings. He visits and donates money very often. Does the admissions office actually check exactly how much each legacy donates?

And thanks for the boosting of my confidence :)

Well, your dad probably is a regular at Cornell, so they will know his name. You should know that if he donates a lot of money, you are a sure-admit. There's no reason to "boost your confidence". And the good thing is, you are acadmeically qualified to attend unlike one of our presidents......but I digress. Good work!
