Will be taking SAT II's in the fall. Probably biology and Math II

3.8 unweighted GPA. I've taken all honors classes and one AP junior year. I signed up for 5 senior year but not sure if I'll get into all of them.

Will be a 12 time varsity athlete after senior year in Cross Country and Indoor and Outdoor Track.

I will probably be joining our math team next year. It's been tough because Track and XC have been taking up a lot of my time.

Please Chance me for Cornell U, Lehigh U, Bucknell U, RPI, WPI, URI (state school, safety).

I'm looking to go into BME, but I've heard that it'd be best to major in EE or MechE as an undergrad...

Thanks!

Your SAT scores are average (clarification: great scores, but average for Cornell) and your EC’s look somewhat weak. I’m sure track and XC take up a lot of time but colleges don’t tend to care because the majority of their applicants have major time committments and manage to be President of NHS or other leadership roles. Do you have more EC’s or any leadership roles? Also, what’s your class rank? I would definitely give you a shot a Cornell (especially with that nice Math score), but it’s hard to tell without more information.

Oh, forgot to include class rank. It was 9 out of 396 at mid year. I think it should be 7 or 8 now, but I haven’t been able to see it.

Not sure what leadership roles I’d be able to include unfortunately, except Cross Country Team Captain. I’m trying to think of others…

In my opinion, then, your chances at Cornell hinge upon your essays. Your scores aren’t going to hurt you, and you have a nice class rank, but your EC’s are below average for a school like Cornell. I think you definitely still stand a chance but you need to display what makes you unique in your essays, whether it be the topic you write about or your writing prose itself. In my opinion, you look like an average Cornell applicant right now which is good or bad depending on how you play it:
Bad-Obviously Cornell is a highly selective school and while your stats may match theirs, there are just too many people applying for them to admit everyone with good stats.
Good-If you can somehow set yourself apart or make yourself appear unique then all of a sudden you jump all of the average applicants and stand a good chance!

Hope that helps. Good luck!

Thanks for your help. I’ll definitely be putting a lot of work into my essays.

Also, if anyone else has suggestions for schools to apply to, it would help a lot. Like I said, I’d like to go into engineering, eventually BME.
