First post, stressing about college though everyone tells me I don't need to.

About me- White Male, Durham, NC

GPA: 3.89 Unweighted, 4.68 Weighted
Class Rank: My school's counselors are incompetent af, so top 10% is all I know. If I had to hazard a guess, 8th percentile.
AP classes: US Gov+Politics (5) English Lang (5) Statistics (4) APES (4) APUSH (5)
Taking AP Calc AB, AP Lit, AP Euro, and AP Psych.

ACT w/ Writing: 33 (like one point from a 34)
SAT: 2210 - 740M, 720R, 760W, new scores come out a week from now so this may update.
SAT Subject Tests: haven't taken yet :/

Activities:

Varsity Soccer
Club Soccer (captain)
Work (15-20 hrs a week at Innovative Neurophysiology, high tech electrode assembler)
Did volunteer work at an animal rescue, as well as renovated homes
More, but honestly nothing more special. If anything fell flat it was my ECs.

Essays:
Common app essay= very good, very good. It's about getting cut but coming back to make the soccer team, and inspirational, but at the same time I address that it's cliche and differentiate myself.
UNC and Cornell supplements aren't complete but I like them. UNC's is much more limited, I think Cornell is looking for something different too.

Letters of Rec:

Letter from APUSH teacher, pretty good
Letter from French teacher, pretty good

The sports thing could be a bit dry but I’ll take your word for it. You don’t have a ton of ECs which honestly isn’t a bad thing as long as you put time and effort into the ones you have, and stress that in your apps. I have no idea how hard it is to get into UNC CH in state, so I can’t really help there but I know Cornell is pretty much the “easiest” ivy to get into, simply because they have a larger undergraduate population. I think you are a solid applicant but really work on your apps and get as many eyes as possible to look over your essays and supplements for you. Good luck!

Calling your counselors incompetent just because they gave you the decile you’re in rather than your exact rank is unwarranted. Many schools give their students their percentile rather than an actual number so I don’t understand why you would think that.

Truust - it’s not that they have me at a percentile and not my class rank it’s that they haven’t given me either.

I’m a twin and in an under 100k/yr household so money is an issue, and with UNC I think I’ll get the best financial aid… I’m not really applying many other places.

I think you have a good shot. You would definitely want to stress your passion and involvement in soccer though as that seems to be your most important EC. Overall good stats. Best of luck!
Anyone care to chance me? I chance back!
