Chances for cornell

Hm... again, what are my chances for ED and RD?

there are millions of asians like you...

better then you i mean

lol. no jk. improve your ec's. get leadership

lol is there any difference between applying for ED and RD?
Which pool is harder to survive?

Cornell is big on ED, it would be to your advantage.

thanks
what do u mean by that cornell is big on ED?
if that means it's easier to get in there than RD, why wouldnt many people apply for that?

Cornell accepts close to 40% of its ED'ers. Not that many people apply because its not their first choice school, its the least selective of the ivies - mainly because of its size.

well than there is a hope
hey sentient89 how did u know about that? is it on the collegeboard or something?
it's really amazing to see people knowing those things, how do u do that?

I forget where heh, I collect random stats, they just seem to stick whenever someone says something.

by the way, is being ED applicant inferior to RD applicants?
i read some threads saying Cornell ED students are not welcomed at the party
i'm just curious

I think you're taking that comment out of context. I doubt they were implying that they were any different, in fact ED is usually stronger than the regular pool. RD often has people applying for the heck of it.

Actually, you're right FishS
but i still wonder why aren't that many people trying for ED's.

Because it's a binding contract saying that you will attend the school. Most people don't want to commit to it especially if it's not their first choice. Besides that, you can't compare financial aid packages, you are basically stuck with whatever Cornell gives you. Plenty of people do do ED though. Which college do you plan to apply to?

i'm not as insightful as most people in this forum
my concern is just that my counselor isnt really expert at these things
i'm probably going to UMCP since i can get in-state benefits
Although i'm not a U.S. citizen, certain schools like UMCP offer instate benefits as long as the students are under process of getting the U.S. permanent residency

I'm planning to apply for about 3 schools like cornell, JHU, and UMCP
but you know what, getting into one of the ivy league schools still seems very unrealistic for me. That is why i'm asking people how hard is ED going to be..

In addition, i still dont understand why there are so many excellent schools which i have never heard of..

"Cornell accepts close to 40% of its ED'ers. Not that many people apply because its not their first choice school, its the least selective of the ivies - mainly because of its size."

Princeton is 30% early accept, so 40% for Cornell is still pretty tough to get into!

Really? I was pretty certain the ED acceptance rates for HYPSM were all hovering around 20%.

what does that HYPSM stand for....?

Harvard, Yale, Princeton, etc. Normally its just HYPS, sometimes people add on more things, its mostly just the top selective schools in the US.

i had the meeting with the college advisor in my school
Well, he said my lacking of EC's would be excusable because of some circumstances that i was in.
If that's true, how do you see my chances for Cornell ED??

PS: here are my EC's ....

What school at cornell are you planning on applying to, because the different schools within the university can range significantly in selectivity

Engineering school?
Frankly, i don't understand what you mean by "school".
If that's something like department, i'm going to apply for engineering department.
