I’m currently a junior in college pursuing a B.S. in Computer Science and I’m interested in applying to graduate school for Computer Science. Please list me some good CS schools you think I am qualified for. Thank you!
GPA: 4.00/4.00
GRE: Haven’t taken yet
Extracurriculars: Asian Student Alliance, Math Club, Physics Club, Data Science Club, Competed in 5 hackathons
Work Experience: Interned for the Federal Aviation Administration
Completed Relevant Classes thus far:
CS: Programming and Problem Solving 1 & 2, Data Structures and Algorithms 1 & 2, Foundations of Computer Science, Operating Systems
Math: Calculus 1 & 2, Statistics
Here is not the right place. Please ask the question to one of your CS professor or your academic adviser in CS department. If your college assigns a mentor, you could ask her/him.
If you want to shoot for best CS schools, here are the top 3 - MIT, Stanford, CMU. What areas in CS you’re interested in? Cyber security (you mentioned 5 hackathons)?
I’m aiming for AI/Machine Learning
Are you interested in an MS or a Phd?
I don’t see any research whatsoever. You can forget about a PhD program without it. You can forget about a top 5 program without a publication.
@ClassicRockerDad
I don’t think it’s that bad.
My D, currently at UC Berkeley, was accepted by 5 top CS PhD programs (2 of them listed above in post #2) without any publication. Her first paper was accepted by a 1st tier conference 2 months after the admission notices came out.
She did have other things going for her, however: 3.8+ GPA at a univ. known for grade deflation, 2 year research at a well-known lab, excellent LoRs. The prof. who wrote one of the LoRs is world-renowned (among the prof. interviewing my D, 2 were former advisees of this prof.).
