Chances for Dartmouth 13??

Dartmouth is probably my favorite school ever, and I think I want to ED but I don't want to waste that ED benefit if I have no chance at getting in. any thoughts? ill also have a rec from one of their pretty important alums (i know, that doesnt mean much since there are so many of them but its a start)

In terms of "standing out", I've spent a lot of time in high school studying global human rights...i'm doing an independent study on it, ive done conferences about it, im doing a summer internship on it, and i have a huge volunteer job with a big national anti-genocide coalition. its something im really passionate about, and I hope to emphasize that in my app...its probably not apparent from this list (sorry its long, you dont have to read the whole thing i know its boring!) but i know its something that my essays and college recs will all mention a lot

**My GPA is lower than one would expect of a student applying to top-tier schools, but that is because my school is incredibly difficult and has absolutely no grade inflation. The GPAs of accepted students from my school are always lower than the average accepted GPA of the colleges because colleges know how rigorous my school is.

Stat profile...sorry its long, its the one that college confidential provides!

Wow, I read the first couple of paragraphs and wanted to admit you myself :D If you can sell yourself to the admit board as well as you did here you should have no trouble.

Dartmouth itself is a school without much grade inflation so they'll surely understand your situation. Class rank is really the most important thing and since you're in the top 10%, take the maximum number of AP classes, and have a 33 ACT, you should have nothing to worry about in terms of academics unless you bomb your SAT IIs.

You should really sell your story about your work for global human rights. If you're passionate about it, the readers will understand your story and not only sympathize, but want to help you with your quest. If Dartmouth as you say is your favorite school, by all means apply ED. I think that you have a very good shot at being admitted and I hope to see you next fall if you decide to come! Shoot me a message if you have any other questions and I wish you the best of luck!

thanks! Yeah I'm trying to figure out how to write my college essay in a way that is interesting and sincere, not cheesy. But really, thanks a lot, I do appreciate that.

Anyone else have any thoughts?

I'd say you have a very strong shot, you definitely won't be "wasting" the ED benefit. good luck

You have a good chance :D
I'm going ED too :)

really?! thanks! I sort of feel like Dartmouth is just unreachable so I'm trying not to get too excited about it but more and more it is becoming my top choice school

I got my SAT II's back with a 740 on Lit. Is that strong enough? I will take two more in the fall

any other thoughts? thanks guys!

Are you going to try being recruited as an athlete?
Any arts/music talent??

..I'll be sending a music recording of me playing the Tabla.

I would try and get the ACT up to a 34-35. If you do that, and Dartmouth understands you're among the top 5 students in your class you'll have a shot.

hahah no sports aren't my thing. my thing is really the human rights stuff that ive worked on so much.
yeah thats what im hoping for on the next ACT. I got 5's on both my APs so that's a bit of a relief but still I want my GPA up. It'll probably be a 3.6 by when I apply soo I dunno hopefully that helps.

Anyone else? Any suggestions? Thanks so much :)

anyone? thank you :)
