I'm a junior right now and have a 3.85 gpa and my rank is 45 out of 415. I go to a highly competitive public school with IB. The problem is around 100 more students will probably drop out by the time i'm applying to colleges. Will my GPA and rank hurt me too much?

I expect around 2300s for my SAT and fairly good extracurriculars.

If you do indeed get in the 2300s (how confident are you about that?), then you are definitely in the running. However, a combination of low test scores with a rank outside of top ten would make it difficult. Not unheard of, but unusual. Do you have any hooks or other strong parts in your app?

Nope. Some things i have going for me are geographic location (utah), turkish background, and probably a few other things.
I did get around 220 on my psat so i think with a good amount of studying, at least 2300 is attainable.
Would around 2400 help me a lot more than a 2300 would. Basically my attitude at this point is that since grades are almost done, I might at well focus on the SATs. If i put in the work I think i could get 2350+

Being outside of the top 10%, without a hook, will make it tough with any score. So few get in with a rank below top 10% ( think athletes and URMs, not even legacies) and the vast majority from non top high schools are top 2, (not 2%).

With this yeat’s acceptance rate to be probably under 10%, it’s unfortunately just crazy now.

@bilginsoy, a 2400 is better than a 2300, but not significantly better. I think in some cases it might push a candidate over the top, but only if everything else is solid. Definitely study hard for SATs, but finishing your junior year strong is really important. First half of senior year grades are crucial as well. That is the most important thing.
