chances for daughter

My DD, a junior, is considering:

Villanova
Delaware
Loyola
Lehigh
Maryland

Stats:

Currently a Junior here in NJ; mid point of jr yr, cumulative index, unweighted 3.75
challenging curriculum, incl honors or ap english/lit all yrs; honors or ap history all years; honors spanish all years; honors russian sophomore/jr/sr; honors precalc jr yr; ap statistics planned sr yr; ap bio planned sr yr.
SATs 600M/610V/580W
national honor society; spanish honor society; math honor society
extracurricular - jv lacrosse, sophomore yr; varsity lacrosse jr and probably sr yr; habitat for humanity (soph-sr yrs)
personal: accomplished figure skater for 10 yrs; advanced jazz/lyrical dancer; figure skating coach

What do you folks think her chances are for admittance to those schools?

Thanks.

Del - Match
Loy - Match
Lehigh - Reach

Get those SATs up!

thanks. where do you think the sats need to be? i think she will be able to get to 650 on all three, but not much higher.

also, forgot to mention class rank: 11/527

With a 1950, top 2%, and sending in a video of her figure skating, I'd say everything but lehigh is a safety, with lehigh as a safe match.

i agree with Brenny!

not sure, but those sat scores are low. bring them up as much as you can.

I think UMD will be tough. She'll be competing with all the kids from Montgomery County Maryland, who typically have very high SATand outstanding GPAs. Maryland will not be counting the writing. I think she would have better luck at Rutgers and Penn State. All these schools are about the same.

thanks for the feedback. i think her first choice is delaware, so i'm mostly interested if, with the current stats, she would be likely to get in there. we live in nj, and while she doesn't want to go to a nj school, she might consider rowan and ramapo (which are probably a notch or so below delaware), but she definitely did not like the rutgers campus. also, penn state is too far - she's looking 3-4 hrs max from where we live in monmouth county.

If Delaware is her first choice she should apply early decision. I have a daughter who was the only person accepted from her HS the year she applied. She got into the Honors Program. Other classmates were rejected. She had a 1400 on SAT with a 3.7 uwgpa 4.3 wgpa. Also an accomplished ice dancer(gold). No, she didn't go, but does have a lot of friends at the school. Delaware is full of kids from NY, NJ, and MD.

I think all good chances. TRY to bring SAT up, but it's okay. Best of luck. =]

which is she considering for her major?

she's not sure yet, but i'm thinking she might go for elementary education and possibly combine that with a language.

in nj tcnj is best for education. villanova and lehigh are reaches. Maryland and deleware should be safe matches.

Douglass college has an wonderful elementary ed department and is also strong in languages arts etc. I know Rutgers College ed program is also strong.

thanks fedmom1080; funny thing, since we live in nj, she is pretty adamant about going to a school outside of nj. and rutgers is one of her definite "no way" schools. thanks for your input.

Lol, thats how I felt about Rutgers, and going out of state. However for education, TCNJ is really good. Having started out as a school for teachers, tcnj has one of the best education programs in the country. However if she is adament about going out of state, also check out UMASS-Amherst.
http://www.umass.edu/education/departments/tecs.htm

So here's how everything worked out:

Final class rank was 10/477.
unweighted gpa about 3.8
best sat scores were: 650 math; 610 verbal; 600 writing

applied to:

Delaware; accepted; did not make honors program; got no merit scholarship
Loyola; accepted; no merit
Lehigh; accepted; no merit
UMass Amherst; accepted to Commonwealth (honors) College; $5,000 scholarship
Rowan; accepted; $4,700 merit scholarship
Ramapo; accepted; full tuition (about $10,000 per year)
Villanova; wait-listed

GOING TO DELAWARE!!

Congratulations. It's pretty impressive to get accepted to six schools, at least in my book. You should be really proud of your daughter. ^_^
