what are the chances of appealing a rejection.... numerous faculty and adminisration members at my school are apalled that i got rejected, particularly my guidance counselor....haha if she calls admissions, will that do anything at all?

I doubt it will help... but maybe, there are a bunch of kids waitlisted so I don't think your chances are good... actually I've never heard of anyone appealing, maybe it's just me tho. You have to remember you had an application and some test scores to sell yourself to admissions offices, and there were thousands of other people who had scores like yours I'm sure... Of course your guidance counselors and faculty have known you forever so they would definitely know things about you that an application can't say... Remember UVA accepts like only 35% of out of state students. Sorry you didn't get in... and good luck with ur appeal and at wherever u end up at.

swoosh- What are your stats?

I think it depends on your stats, what are they???

yeah it's more like 25% actually... pretty tough for out-of-staters.

Send the adcom of the school that you've applied to an email/letter. This is your suck-up letter. You need to express your desire to attend UVa, why you make a good fit, and that you'll except an offer over any other school...etc.

Although, don't be surprised if it doesn't work. I've read UVa doesn't accept many, if any, on appeal.

I know it's difficult, but keep your focus and go with the next best offer. A lot of people fall in love with their fallback schools too.

Good luck!

i have a 1450 SAT, 750 math IIC, 750 writing, 660 US history. GPA is weighted 3.83ish on a 4.0 scale, or a 94.5 on a 100 scale. lots of honors and AP's in a very competitive high school. i have tons of extracurriculars and community service hours with a lot of leadership, i had great recs and solid essays. i applied early decision and was deferred, and then i kept in contact w/ admissiosn by emailing them once a month and then i sent in my midyear report (straight A's in all AP's and honors courses) along with a letter about why i want to go to UVA (talked about specific clubs and events that I was interested in, specific academic programs, etc), and an extra essay. i definitely showed a lot of interest in going, thats why im very surprised i wasnt even waitlisted. im from NJ and im asian so that definitely hurt me.

my guidance counselor is calling to speak with a decisions dean tomorrow, do you think anything good will come out of it?

I think what you need to know is that although your profile is very solid, it is in fact fairly standard for out of state applicants.
