Chances for dual applicant?

Am I on the right track, coming into my senior year?

[li] College: Dual consideration for Engineering or Architecture. (This is a new thing at Michigan. You can be accepted by one, both, or neither.)
[/li]

[li] ACT: 31 (one sitting)
[/li]

[li] GPA: 3.83 UW
[/li]

[li] Other stats: Very well-developed, process-emphasizing Architecture portfolio. UofM summer camp for architecture. Reviewed in advance by UofM grad students.
[/li]

[li] Subjective: Elected to student gov. for the last 3 yrs, I frequently publish poems and win poetry competitions. That's my real passion. I also work as a volunteer with the University of Michigan Depression Center, where I am sponsored to host workshops and depression/anxiety education seminars at my school. I have one circumstance, being that I was rendered homeless my sophomore year because of financial reasons, and that reflected on my transcript for that year.
[/li]

[li] Essays: n/a yet. I intend to write about the homeless ordeal and what I learned from it. Also, I am thinking about writing about how growing up in an Egyptian household/family has impacted my worldview and sense of self, as I am a first-gen in this country.
[/li]

[li] Teacher Recs: n/a yet.
[/li]

[li] Counselor Rec: n/a yet.
[/li]

[li] Hook: My aunt taught at Michigan and helped develop the state-wide preschool system while employed as a researcher there.
[/li]

[li] Location/Person: Ann Arbor, MI (local!)
[/li]

[li] School Type: Public
[/li]

[li] Ethnicity: Middle Eastern (trilingual Arabic / Albanian)
[/li]

[li] Gender: Male
[/li]

[li] Major strength/weakness: Very strong curriculum (passed four AP exams), accelerated German and math studies, AP Chem/Calc/Physics, 4.0 in freshman/junior year. Also part of my school's Engineering magnet program, where I have earned 12 college credits (held at Eastern Michigan University). Weakness: Awful sophomore year: 3.5 GPA and 1 suspension.
[/li]

[li] Other Factors/questions: Am I out of the running because of sophomore year? I bounced back pretty well, if you ask me.
[/li]

There are other things about me that I don't think are worth putting on the app. I performed

with the school band for two years, and am considered a guitar prodigy by the local music scene.

Considering you have an explanation, and the situation is presumably resolved, I don’t think your sophomore year will be held strongly against you. You will probably get into CoE. I don’t know much about admissions for Architecture so I can’t really tell you there.

You have a good shot at getting accepted, but there is always a chance that you won’t be. You have a solid ACT score and GPA. Your extracurriculars are decent, but not great. Your homeless situation should help justify your sophomore performance.

Good luck to you! (I’m a senior too, hopefully we will both be on campus next year)
