Put harvard in the mix just for kicks in giggles.

I'll gladly chance back, if I have time

best of luck to all

UNC is Early Action, rest of the schools are regular

I’d say you’re in at UNC, even with that score, since you’re in-state… Since it’s EA, I’d say you have a better shot, actually. I’ll call it a match, because of your SAT score. With a 2100, you’d be in for sure.

As for Harvard… Even if you had perfect SAT scores, it’d still be a high reach for you, as it is for anyone… But because you aren’t a URM and have a subpar SAT score, with that SAT score, your chances are almost 0%… If you could get it to a 2250, then you’d be a slightly better than average applicant, so if I were you, I’d really get that SAT up…

As for Duke: Your chances with your current SAT score are slim to none… You’d be lucky to make the waitlist, but I’d say that’s somewhat unlikely. With great essays, recommendations, and a 2100, I’d say you’d be a fairly strong applicant; with a 2250, great essays, and great recommendations, I’d say that you have high chances.

^lol I disagree with that statement completely. SAT’s are very important to a lot of colleges. Is there any time for you to retake it or take the ACT?

If there is any chance for you to retake the SAT, do it! The GPA is awesome and your extracurriculars show a lot of leadership. The only thing holding you back is your SAT score. I’d say you will most likely get in at UNC, mid-high match at Duke, and a high reach for Harvard like everyone else. Good luck to you!

With an 1830 I don’t think you’ll have much luck. Your score makes your school seem very, very easy. A valedictorian should be able to get at least above a 2100, in most schools.

Defree24 The kid at my school who got the highest sat score is in the botton 25% of the class. The kid who is 5th in the class got a 1760. It doesn’t always correlate

A look at the common data set for any top school will tell you that SATs are, indeed, critical. Anyone who doesn’t think so is truly fooling themselves. Jdlace, look up the CDSs and then come back and tell us SATs don’t matter. They very much do.

Lots of people accepted into good school have high sats but that doesn’t mean its necessary. Colleges don’t throw out all applications that have below 2200, other things matter too. It is possible to get into a good school even with a low score let alone an average score
